Saint-François (electoral District)
Saint-François is a provincial electoral district in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes parts of the city of Sherbrooke as well as the municipalities of Coaticook and Compton. It was created for the 1973 election from parts of Compton, Richmond and Sherbrooke electoral districts. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it gained territory from Orford and Mégantic-Compton electoral districts, and also gained the Brompton borough of Sherbrooke from Johnson electoral district. Sherbrooke
Sherbrooke ( ; ) is a city in southern Quebec, Canada. It is at the confluence of the Saint-François and Magog rivers in the heart of the Estrie administrative region. Sherbrooke is also the name of a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Sherbrooke. With 172,950 residents at the Canada 2021 Census, It is the sixth largest city in the province and the 30th largest in Canada. The Sherbrooke Census Metropolitan Area had 227,398 inhabitants, making it the fourth largest metropolitan area in Quebec and 19th in Canada. Coaticook
Coaticook () is a town on the Coaticook River in southeastern Quebec, Canada. It is the seat of the Coaticook Regional County Municipality, and its southern border is also the Canada–United States border. In addition to the primary community of Coaticook, smaller communities that are now within the municipal boundaries include Baldwin's Mills, Barnston, Ladd's Mills and Stanhope, the last of which was a separate community in the 1890s and used to have the small private Stanhope Airport. Name The municipality is named after the Coaticook River. The name “Coaticook” is of Abenaki origin, deriving from the term “koatikeku”, which means “''where the river is bordered by white pines''”. Lennoxville, Quebec
Lennoxville is an ''arrondissement'', or borough, of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. Lennoxville is located at the confluence of the St. Francis and Massawippi Rivers approximately five kilometres south of downtown Sherbrooke. Lennoxville had previously existed as an independent city until January 1, 2002, when the city of Lennoxville, along with several other formerly independent towns and cities in the region, were merged with the city of Sherbrooke. Fleurimont is an ''arrondissement'', or borough, of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada on the Saint-François River. Brompton, Quebec
Brompton is a borough of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec. The borough comprises the former city of Bromptonville, which was amalgamated into the city of Sherbrooke on January 1, 2002. Prior to December 30, 1998, "Brompton" referred to a township municipality which occupied some of the territory of the modern-day borough of Brompton. Prior to June 12, 1996, the township municipality of Brompton and the city of Bromptonville were part of Le Val-Saint-François Regional County Municipality; on that date they both transferred to Sherbrooke Regional County Municipality (as it was then called). On December 30, 1998, the township municipality of Brompton merged into the city of Bromptonville. Hatley, Quebec (municipality)
Hatley is a municipality of about 771 people, in Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. It lies to the south of the township municipality of the same name. An otherwise quiet and tiny agricultural setting, one of Hatley's main claims to fame is its annual Canada Day Celebration which always takes place on July 1. Along with a parade (featuring horses, floats, antique cars, tractors, children on decorated bikes and any number of other entrants), the day includes games for children, artisan vendors, a book sale, community lunch, local performers, and ends off with a fireworks display. Megantic-Compton is a former provincial electoral district in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. As of its final election, it included the municipalities of East Angus, Cookshire-Eaton, Lac-Mégantic, Weedon, Lac-Drolet and Chartierville. It was created for the 1973 election from parts of Frontenac, Compton, and Wolfe electoral districts; despite the name, it did not include any part of the territory of the former Mégantic electoral district.
