''Sables'' is a 1927 French silent film directed by Dimitri Kirsanoff and starring Colette Darfeuil, Gina Manès and Nadia Sibirskaïa. Richard Abel, in his history of French cinema of this period, positions ''Sables'' firmly in a wave of films made at this time in the exotic locations of North Africa and the French colonies. ''Sables'' was one of a series made by French filmmakers at this time: Toussaint's ''Inch’Allah'', Luitz-Morat's ''Le sang d’Allah'' ("Allah's blood") and Hugon's ''Yasmina''. ''Sables'' fits into this pattern with a melodramatic plot that uses the Tunisian desert as its background adding mystery and the unknown. Mercury Sable
The Mercury Sable is a range of automobiles manufactured and marketed by the Mercury brand of Ford Motor Company. Introduced on December 26, 1985 as the replacement for the Mercury Marquis, the Sable marked the transition of the mid-size Mercury product range to front-wheel drive. Over its production span, the Sable was Mercury's badge-engineered counterpart to the Ford Taurus, below the Grand Marquis in the Mercury range. From the 1986 to 2005 model years, it was produced as a mid-size four-door sedan and five-door station wagon. For 2006, the Sable was replaced by the full-size Montego and mid-size Milan. It was reintroduced for 2008 as a full-size car, offered as a four-door sedan. Because of declining sales, the Sable was discontinued after the 2009 model year, leaving no Mercury counterpart for the sixth-generation Taurus. Kolinsky Sable-hair Brush
A kolinsky sable-hair brush (also known as ''red sable'' or ''sable hair brush'') is a fine artists' paintbrush. The hair is obtained from the tail of the kolinsky (''Mustela sibirica''), a species of weasel rather than an actual sable. The "finest" brushes are made from the male hair only, but most brushes have a mix of about 60/40 male-to-female hair. Kolinsky bristles tend to be pale red in colour with darker tips. The weasel is not an animal that is raised well in captivity, and is generally isolated to the geographical region of Siberia. Due to this difficulty in harvesting the hair, and the fact that other natural and artificial bristles are not comparable in quality, these bristles are rare and expensive. USS ''Sable'' (IX-81) was a United States Navy training ship during World War II, originally built as the passenger ship ''Greater Buffalo'', a sidewheel excursion steamboat. She was purchased by the Navy in 1942 and converted to a training aircraft carrier to be used on the Great Lakes. She lacked a hangar deck, elevators, or armament and was not a true warship, but she provided advanced training of naval aviators in carrier takeoffs and landings. On her first day of service, 59 pilots became qualified within nine hours of operations, with each making eight takeoffs and landings.
