Sabah Football Club ( ms, Kelab Bolasepak Sabah) is a football club with ownership by Sabah Football Club Sdn Bhd. The football club competes in Malaysia's football league representing the state of Sabah in Borneo. They currently compete in Malaysia's top division professional football league, the Malaysia Super League. The team's home matches are played at the 35,000 capacity Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah. The team won the Malaysia FA Cup in 1995, the Malaysian Premier League (top tier) in 1996, and the Malaysia Premier League (second tier) in 2019. In 1995, the team also advanced to the second round of the Asian Cup Winners' Cup after beating An Giang of V-League by 3–1 on aggregate, subsequently losing to Bellmare Hiratsuka (now Shonan Bellmare) of J-League by an aggregate score of 1–7. Peter Rajah (1951 – 14 November 2014) was a Malaysian footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Sabah and the national team. Rajah was a member of the Malaysian team who qualified for the 1980 Moscow Olympics, which Malaysia did not participate in boycott of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Hassan Sani
Hassan Sani (born 31 August 1958) is a former Malaysian football player. Career Overview He played for Sabah and Kuala Lumpur in the Malaysian League and Malaysia Cup in the late 1970s and in the 1980s. Hassan start representing Malaysia in youth competition from 1977–1978. He brought into the senior team in 1978 by Karl Heinz Weigang. He is remembered as a member of the potent strike force comprising the likes of Mokhtar Dahari and James Wong (another player from Sabah). He was called "''lipas kudung''" because of his agility and was a member of the Malaysia squad that qualified for the 1980 Olympics in Moscow after defeating South Korea in 1980 Asian Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. James Wong (footballer)
Datuk James Wong (born 26 June 1953) is a former Malaysian footballer who is a striker for Malaysia national football team and Sabah. He also played as a goalkeeper for the Malaysia youth team in the 1971 AFC Youth Championship. He was known as ''King James'' by the local fans. Career Overview Wong is the first Sabahan to represent Malaysia in 1971. In 1974, He made his way going abroad to joined Hakoah Sydney, the Australian club, at the invitation of former Malaysia head coach, Dave MacLaren. He played professionally for the club in New South Wales Premier League for two years. Wong is well-known for his physical and finishing touch. His partnership with Hassan Sani produced many memorable goals for Sabah and Malaysia. The most memorable one was in the 1980 Olympic games qualification. Sarawak FA State Football Team ( ms, Pasukan Bola Sepak Negeri Sarawak) was a defunct football team which represented the Malaysian region (formerly state) of Sarawak from 1974 to 2020 in the Malaysian football league. It was one of the 14 Malaysian state teams of the Malaysian football league system, Malaysian football structure before the Malaysian football league demanded all teams competing in the country's top two leagues to be run as or changed to professional clubs by 2021. Borneo Cup
Borneo Cup (Malay: Piala Borneo) is a football tournament held in East Malaysia and Brunei. It was founded in 1950s and abolished in 1989. The tournament was played in Borneo since the 1950s, perhaps earlier. Before the establishment of Malaysia on 16 September 1963, the tournament was contested by three national teams, North Borneo, Sarawak and Brunei. After North Borneo and Sarawak formed Malaysia together with Malaya and Singapore, it competed as states of Malaysia. In 1977, the tournament champions Sabah qualify for the Malaysia Cup.
