Sabadell Art Museum
The Sabadell Art Museum or MAS ( ca, Museu d'Art de Sabadell) is a museum specialised in Catalan painting from the 19th and 20th centuries and is located in Sabadell, the capital of El Vallès Occidental. It is part of the Barcelona Provincial Council Local Museum Network. The building The museum is located in the old residence of Pere Turull i Sallent, a well-known industrialist from the textile era of the city and co-founder of the Caixa d'Estalvis de Sabadell savings bank. The building was constructed between 1812 and 1819 and was purchased by the Sabadell Town Council in 1964. It underwent remodelling between 1993 and 1997. Sabadell
Sabadell () is a city in Catalonia, Spain. It is in the south of the ''comarca'' of Vallès Occidental and its joint capital (co-capital), on the River Ripoll, north of Barcelona. Sabadell is located above sea level. Sabadell pioneered the Industrial Revolution in Catalonia with its textile mills, together with its archrival Terrassa. Thus, in the mid-19th century, it became the most important wool city in Spain, being nicknamed the "Catalan Manchester#Industrial Revolution, Manchester". Today many mills from that period can still be seen, with most of them having been refurbished as residential buildings or other services. Nowadays Sabadell is basically a commercial and industrial city; there are no significant agricultural activities. Sabadell is an important communications point. Vallès Occidental
Vallès Occidental () is a comarca (county) in Catalonia, Spain. Sabadell and Terrassa are the comarcal capitals. Along with Vallès Oriental it forms the grand comarca of Vallès, and is part of the Barcelona metropolitan area. Physical geography Vallès Occidental borders the comarques of Bages (to the north), Vallès Oriental (to the north and east), Baix Llobregat (to the west), and Barcelonès (to the south). It centers on the Catalan prelittoral depression, limited to the west by the River Llobregat and to the east by the River Caldes. The northern part of the comarca is mountainous. From west to east, it contains part of the Obac range (924m altitude at Castellsapera); the massifs of Sant Llorenç de Munt (1095m at La Mola and 1053m at Montcau) and Puig de la Creu (664m); and the Sant Sadurní (954m) and Farell cliffs (789m). The Barcelona Provincial Council Local Museum Network ( ca, Xarxa de Museus Locals), also known as ''Catalonia’s Biggest Museum'', is a tool for support and collaboration from and for the museums of the province, which makes available to municipalities a series of services and actions aimed at improving, through the provision of direct services and research into viable formulas for supramunicipal cooperation, the management, conservation and dissemination of heritage and the museum facilities of the towns of Barcelona province. It is managed from the Cultural Heritage Office, which in turn depends on the Department of Knowledge and New Technologies of Barcelona Provincial Council. Sabadell History Museum
The Sabadell History Museum or MHS ( ca, Museu d'Història de Sabadell) is a pluridisciplinary museum that brings together collections on the archaeology, history and ethnology of the city of Sabadell, especially in relation to wool manufacture and the textile industry. Lectures and talks are given on subjects regarding the city's history. Entrance is free and wheelchair accessible.
