SSE Thermal is the thermal power generation subsidiary of British company SSE plc. Overview SSE Thermal operates several thermal power stations that provide electricity to the National Grid. It operated Ferrybridge 'C 'power station and Fiddlers Ferry power station until 2016 and 2020 respectively. SSE decided to end its UK coal power generation in 2017. National Grid (Great Britain)
In the electricity sector in the United Kingdom, the National Grid is the high-voltage electric power transmission network serving Great Britain, connecting power stations and major substations and ensuring that electricity generated anywhere on it can be used to satisfy demand elsewhere. Ferrybridge Power Stations
The Ferrybridge power stations were a series of three coal-fired power stations on the River Aire near Ferrybridge in West Yorkshire, England, in operation from 1927 to 2016 on a site next to the junction of the M62 and A1(M) motorways. The first station, Ferrybridge A, was constructed in the mid-1920s and closed in 1976. Ferrybridge B was brought into operation in the 1950s and closed in the early 1990s. In 1966, Ferrybridge C power station was opened with a generating capacity of 2 GW from four 500 MW sets; constructed by the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB); on privatisation in 1989 ownership was passed to Powergen, then to Edison Mission Energy (1999), then to AEP Energy Services (American Electric Power) (2001) and to SSE plc (2004). Keadby Power Station
Keadby Power Station is a 734 MWe gas-fired power station near Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire. It lies near the B1392 and the River Trent, and the Scunthorpe-Grimsby railway. Marchwood Power Station
Marchwood Power Station is an 898.1 MW gas-fired power station in Marchwood, near Southampton, England. It is situated beside estuary of the River Test where it meets Southampton Water, opposite the Port of Southampton. It is built on the site of an oil-fired power station, demolished in the 1990s. The station is operated by the Marchwood Power Limited Independent Team. Overview Marchwood Power Station is next to Southampton Water on Marchwood Industrial Estate.
