SAA Supa 8
MTN 8 is the current branding for a South African soccer cup competition launched in 1972 for teams who finished in the top 8 positions of the league table of the country's preceding top-flight league (currently the DStv Premiership) season. The winners receive R 8 million and the competition's trophy, which is one of the three domestic trophies attainable by its competitors each soccer season, with the other two being the top-flight league title and the country's premier knock-out competition, the Nedbank Cup. Like the EFL Cup in England, the competition name bears its title title sponsor; from its launch until 2002, it was known as the '' BP Top 8'' and as the '' SAA Supa 8'' until 2008. Mpumalanga Black Aces
Black Aces were a South African football club that played in the Premier Soccer League. Aces usually played their home games in the Mpumalanga province but were based and trained in Johannesburg. History The original club was founded in 1937 by dairy workers. The club folded after finishing 14th in the National First Division inland stream in 2002. The club had also been known as Ukhumba Black Aces, Witbank Black Aces and Super Kurl Aces during its existence. The current club is the second incarnation and they entered the South African football league in 2007 when the Polokwane-based City Pillars league license was bought and the team was transferred to Witbank from Limpopo. The licensed was acquired in December 2006 and the team was playing under the name of Mpumalanga Black Aces in time for the 2007–08 season. The 2010 MTN 8 was the 36th edition of this annual knock out tournament. The tournament was won by Orlando Pirates, who beat Moroka Swallows on penalties in the final. The trophy was Orlando Pirates' first major cup win in ten years. It was contested by the eight top teams from the Premier Soccer League table at the end of the 2009–10 season. Golden Arrows
Lamontville Golden Arrows F.C. are a South African soccer club based in Durban that plays in the Premier Soccer League. History It was founded in 1943 in the streets of Lamontville, a township in Durban. The club played in the defunct National Professional Soccer League in the 1970s until they were relegated in 1976. They played in the Second Division thereafter until 1980 when they were embroiled in a soccer scandal and thrown out of the National Professional Soccer League. The team was formed again in 1996 when the Madlala family bought the Second Division franchise of Ntokozo FC and changed its name to Lamontville Golden Arrows. In 2000 they won promotion to the PSL by winning the National First Division Coastal Stream. The 2008 MTN 8 kicked off on the weekend of 9 August with the first two quarterfinals being played on Saturday and Sunday, and the next round of quarterfinals were played on the weekend of the 16 and 17 August. The first leg of the semifinals took place on 23 and 24 August and the second leg on the weekend of 30 August. The finals were scheduled for 21 September, World Peach Day, but the pitch was waterlogged due to heavy rain over that week. The finals were rescheduled for two days later on 23 September at the ABSA Stadium (Kings Park) in Durban. Bloemfontein Celtic Football Club (simply known as Celtic) is a South African amateur football club based in Bloemfontein that competes in the ABC Motsepe League, the third tier of the South African football league system.
