S8 (Munich)
Line S8 is a line on the Munich S-Bahn network. It is operated by DB Regio Bayern. It runs from Herrsching via Weßling, Pasing, central Munich and Munich East to Munich Airport station. The line operates at 20-minute intervals between Weßling and Munich Airport. Two out of three trains an hour continue from Weßling to Herrsching, so that the gap between trains alternates between 20 and 40 minutes. It is operated using class 423 four-car electrical multiple units, usually as two coupled sets. In the evenings and on Sundays, they generally run as single sets. Royal Bavarian State Railways
The Royal Bavarian State Railways (''Königliche Bayerische Staats-Eisenbahnen'' or ''K.Bay.Sts.B.'') was the state railway company for the Kingdom of Bavaria. It was founded in 1844. The organisation grew into the second largest of the German state railways (after that of the Prussian state railways) with a railway network of 8,526 kilometres (including the Palatinate Railway or ''Pfalzbahn'') by the end of the First World War. Munich–Herrsching Railway
The Munich–Herrsching railway is a branch line from Munich-Pasing to Herrsching in the German state of Bavaria. It is operated by DB Netz AG and is integrated into the Munich S-Bahn as part of line S8. The railway line is duplicated from Munich-Pasing to Weßling and electrified over its entire length. History Before the line was built, there was long-standing disagreement concerning the course of the route between Weßling and Herrsching. There were variations running via Walchstadt, Schluifeld and Steinebach. Eventually, a route was chosen that ran between the Wörthsee villages of Steinebach and Auing with a station in Steinebach. Munich Airport Station
Munich Airport Terminal station (german: Bahnhof München Flughafen Terminal) is a Munich S-Bahn terminal station at Munich Airport at the end of the Munich East–Munich Airport railway. It is connected to the city by lines and . The ride takes approximately 45 minutes to the Marienplatz station in the city centre. München-Pasing Station
Munich-Pasing is a railway station with nine platforms situated in the west of Munich. It is the third-largest station in Munich, after München Hauptbahnhof and München Ost. History When the first Munich railway was built from Munich to Lochhausen on the western outskirts of Munich in 1839, a station with two wooden huts was built in the municipality of Pasing. The line was completed to Augsburg on 7 October 1840. In 1847, back stone station building designed by Friedrich Bürklein was built on the southern side of the railway tracks in Pasing. Ismaning Station
Ismaning station is a tunnel station on the Munich S-Bahn in the town of Ismaning in the northeast area of Munich, Germany. It is served by line S 8. History Until 1992 the former above-ground station was the terminus of the old S 3 line from Nannhofen via Munich-Pasing – Munich Hauptbahnhof – Munich Ostbahnhof to Ismaning. Originally it was intended to extend the line to the Franz Josef Strauss Airport by running the present-day S 8 above ground through the district. After local protests it was decided to lay the S-Bahn route from the southern edge of the district to Osterfeldstrasse in a tunnel. The tunnel station was built at the same spot as the old station and was opened on 17 May 1992.
