Yotvingia, or Sudovia, was a region where the Balts, Baltic tribe known as Yotvingians lived. It was located in the area of Suvalkija, Sudovia and Dzūkija, Dainava; south west from the upper Nemunas, between Marijampolė, Merkinė (Lithuania), Slonim, Kobryn (Belarus), Białystok, and Ełk, Poland, Ełk (Poland). Today this area corresponds mostly to the Podlaskie Voivodeship of Poland, Marijampolė County of Lithuania and a part of Grodno Region, Hrodna Province and Brest Province of Belarus. Suvalkija
Suvalkija or Sudovia ( or ''Sūduva'') is the smallest of the five cultural regions of Lithuania. Its unofficial capital is Marijampolė. People from Suvalkija (Suvalkijans) are called (plural) or (singular) in Lithuanian. It is located south of the Nemunas River, Neman River, in the former territory of Vilkaviškis bishopric. Historically, it is the newest ethnographic region, as its most distinct characteristics and separate regional identity formed during the 19th century when the territory was part of Congress Poland. It was never a separate political entity, and even today, it has no official status in the administrative division of Lithuania. Suwałki Region
Suwałki Region ( ; ) is a historical region around the city of Suwałki in northeastern Poland near the border with Lithuania. It encompasses the powiats of Augustów, Suwałki, and Sejny, and roughly corresponds to the southern part of the former Suwałki Governorate. The region was disputed between Poland and Lithuania after their re-emergence as independent states following World War I. This dispute along with the Vilnius question was the cause of the Polish–Lithuanian War and the Sejny Uprising. Marijampolė Football Arena, also referred to as Hikvision Arena or Sūduva Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Marijampolė, Lithuania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Sūduva. History The stadium was built using funds from the European Union and opened on July 6, 2008. In May–June 2009, the stadium's original seating capacity of 4,200 was increased to hold 6,500 people. This was achieved via additionally constructing a Southern stand, while the Eastern stand's footprint was lengthened left and right alongside the sideline by constructing extensions to the existing tribune that had held only 280 seats before; It was also refurbished and had the seats replaced.
