Sønder Felding
Sønder Felding often abbreviated to Sdr. Felding, is a town in Herning Municipality, Central Denmark Region, Denmark. Located about east of Skjern, the town has a population of 1,392 (1 January 2025). Etymology The oldest known source for the name Felding is from around 1325, in which the form ''Fillingh'' appears. In later evidence, the form Fillingh (1388) and other forms such as ''Fyllyng'' (1425) and ''Felling'' (1580) are found. The name is composed of the word ''fjeld'', which in Old Danish has the meaning "outfield, uncultivated area", and the suffix ''-ing'', which in place names indicates that it is a place or area. The name thus refers to a place or area in the outfield. The leading ''Sønder'' has been used since the 1680s to separate the name from Nørre Felding near Holstebro. Niels Holst-Sørensen
Niels Holst-Sørensen (19 December 1922 – 24 October 2023) was a Danish athlete and air force officer, and a centenarian. He served as the commander-in-chief of the Royal Danish Air Force from 1970 to 1982, and as Denmark's military representative to NATO from 1982 to 1986. He won gold and silver medals at the 1946 European Athletics Championships and served as a member of the International Olympic Committee from 1977 to 2002. Athletic career Holst-Sørensen's first major international meeting was the 1946 European Championships, which took place in Oslo. Holst-Sørensen won the gold medal in the 400 metres with a time of 47.9 seconds. Efterskole
An efterskole (literally ''"afterschool"'', plural efterskoler) is a unique type of Danish voluntary independent residential school for young people between the age of 14 to 18. At an efterskole, students can choose to spend one, two or three years finishing their education, and currently some 28,500 students attend one of approximately 260 such schools throughout Denmark. The schools are open to students from abroad. An efterskole usually offers a variety of "study lines", focusing on specific themes, such as general sports, association football, sailing, golf, cooking, media, animation, theatre, music, dance, etc. Those particular lines offers practice and training on a professional level. Folk High School
Folk high schools (also ''adult education center'') are institutions for adult education that generally do not grant academic degrees, though certain courses might exist leading to that goal. They are most commonly found in Nordic countries and in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The concept originally came from the Danish writer, poet, philosopher, and pastor N. F. S. Grundtvig (1783–1872). Grundtvig was inspired by the Marquis de Condorcet's ''Report on the General Organization of Public Instruction'' which was written in 1792 during the French Revolution. Skjern River
Skjern River () is the largest river in Denmark, in terms of volume. The river has its spring in Tinnet Krat in central Jutland, very close to Denmark's longest river, the Gudenå. It drains about one tenth of Denmark and flows into the Ringkøbing Fjord - a lagoon and former bay of the North Sea. The river has its name from town of Skjern, located at the river delta (the only river delta in the country) at Ringkøbing Fjord. In flood stage, it can discharge up to 200 m³/s.
