Södertälje Syd Railway Station
Södertälje Syd (''Södertälje South'') is a major, but not the most centrally located, railway station in Södertälje, Sweden. It is located on top of the 2 km long Igelsta Bridge. Regional and intercity trains for destinations such as Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö, Copenhagen, Oslo, Linköping and Eskilstuna stop at the station. The local Södertälje–Stockholm commuter rail, Stockholm commuter train, however, goes from central Södertälje, and the central station has by far more passengers than Södertälje Syd. There are also local commuter trains central Södertälje–Gnesta with relatively sparse frequency, stopping at Södertälje Syd, under the Igelsta Bridge with escalator link. With 300 boardings on a winter weekday in 2019, the commuter rail station is the third least used on the Stockholm commuter rail network, only surpassed by Hemfosa and Krigslida on the Nynäs Line. Södertälje
Södertälje ( , ) is a city in Södermanland and Stockholm County, Sweden and seat of Södertälje Municipality. As of 2017, it has 72,704 inhabitants. Igelsta Bridge
The Igelsta Bridge ( sv, Igelstabron) is a railway bridge in Södertälje, Stockholm County in Sweden. The bridge crosses the Södertälje Canal, and the E4 motorway. The length is 2140 m, and the maximum height is 48 m. It was opened in 1995, and is the longest railway-only bridge in Scandinavia. The Oresund Bridge, the western Great Belt Bridge and the Storstrøm Bridge are longer but have both rail and road. A railway station, Södertälje Syd, is located on the western part of bridge. Escalators are used to reach the tracks. Nynäs Line
The Nynäs Line ( sv, Nynäsbanan) is a long railway line between Älvsjö and Nynäshamn in Sweden. The line is electrified and is double track on the section from Älvsjö to Västerhaninge. The line is used by the Stockholm Commuter Rail and freight trains. At Älvsjö, it connects to the Western Main Line. At Farsta strand there is a connection to Farsta strand metro station, which is a terminus at the Stockholm underground railway. At Nynäshamn there is transfer to the Destination Gotland ferries to the island of Gotland. Gnesta () is a bimunicipal locality and the seat of Gnesta Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden with 5,562 inhabitants in 2010. Stockholm commuter rail ( sv, Stockholms pendeltåg) is the commuter rail system in Stockholm County, Sweden. The system is an important part of the public transport in Stockholm, and is controlled by Storstockholms Lokaltrafik. Södertälje Municipality (''Södertälje kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Södertälje. It borders to Lake Mälaren in the north and the Baltic Sea in the south, and within the Stockholm County to Nykvarn Municipality and Salem Municipality and also border Södermanland County and its municipals Gnesta and Trosa. Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, or more formally Aktiebolaget Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (Greater Stockholm Local Transit Company), is the organisation running all of the land based public transport systems in Stockholm County. It was previously known as Stockholms Lokaltrafik and is commonly referred to as SL. History SL has its origins in AB Stockholms Spårvägar (SS), a city-owned public transit company which started in 1915 by the City of Stockholm with the aim to deprivatize the two separate private tramway networks into one more efficient company. SJ (formally ''SJ AB'') is a government-owned passenger train operator in Sweden. SJ was created in 2001, out of the public transport division of ''Statens Järnvägar'', when the former government agency was divided into six separate government-owned limited companies. In 2018 SJ carried 31.8 million passengers. Overview SJ's operations fall broadly into subsidised and unsubsidised services. The unsubsidised services was until 2011 monopoly. The subsidised trains are awarded through competitive bids. However, some trains fall in between these categories, since public transit agencies can pay SJ to allow transit pass holders access to SJ's trains. SJ received a government bailout a few years after its creation, but has since had profit margins of up to ten per cent.
