Sébastien Gardillou
Sébastien Gardillou (born 29 august 1975) is French handball coach, who is the head coach of the France women's national handball team. Before becoming the French first team head coach in 2024, he has had multiple positions related to the French national team, including France women's U20 coach, video analyst and most notably the assistant to Olivier Krumbholz from 2016 to 2024. Career He started playing handball at ASPTT Limoges in Nationale 3, the 5th tier of French handball. Later he played for CAPO Limoges, where he became a player-coach already at the age of 20. Two years later who got his first coaching position at ASPTT Limoges, where he was for two years. In the 2010/11 season he won the French League and French cup double with Metz Handball in his first season at the club. 2024 European Women's Handball Championship
The 2024 European Women's Handball Championship was held in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland from 28 November to 15 December 2024. This was the first tournament to feature 24 teams. Norway were the two time defending champions and defended their title once again with a win over Denmark. World Women's Handball Championship
The IHF Women's Handball World Championship has been organized by the International Handball Federation since 1957. European teams have won every time except 1995 where South Korea won as the first team outside Europe and 2013 where Brazil won as the first American team. The biggest winners are Russia and Norway with four titles each. Nine teams participated in the first championship, this number has grown in steps to 32 (from 2021). In 1977 a B-tournament was introduced and later in 1986 a C-tournament which served as qualification for the real championship or A-tournament. The B- and C-tournament qualifications were replaced by the present qualification system based on continental confederations in 1993. From 1993 it has been held every other year. A player–coach (also playing coach, captain–coach, or player–manager) is a member of a sports team who simultaneously holds both playing and coaching duties. Player–coaches may be head coaches or assistant coaches, and they may make changes to the squad and also play on the team. Olivier Krumbholz
Olivier Krumbholz (born 12 September 1958) is a French handball coach of German descent who was the head coach for the French women's national team in two periods from 1998-2013 and again from 2016-2024. He is considered one of the most successful national team coaches of all time and the best French women's coach of all time. He was made ''Chevalier'' (knight) of the Ordre national du Mérite in 2020. In both 2010 and 2018, he was named the best women's handball coach in the world by the International Handball Federation. Career Krumbholz played in his active years for SMEC Metz. He played 9 matches for the French national team.
