Séamus Coen
Séamus Coen (born 1 February 1958) is an Irish retired Hurling, hurler who played as a left wing-back for the Galway GAA, Galway senior team. Born in Mullagh, County Galway, Mullagh, County Galway, Coen first played competitive hurling in his youth. After first joining the Galway under-21 team, he made his senior debut during the 1979 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Coen went on to win one All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship medal and one National Hurling League medal with Galway. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Connacht GAA, Connacht inter-provincial team at various times throughout his career, Coen won two Railway Cup medal. At club level he played with Mullagh GAA, Mullagh. Mullagh GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Mullagh, County Galway, Ireland. The club is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. The Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Limerick GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Limerick. The county board is also responsible for the Limerick county teams. 1978 All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship
The 1978 All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship was the 15th staging of the All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1964. Kilkenny entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated in the provincial series. On 29 October 1978, Galway won the championship following a 3-15 to 2-08 defeat of Tipperary in a replay of the All-Ireland final. This was their second All-Ireland title in the under-21 grade and their first in six championship seasons. The 1980 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 94th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter county, inter-county hurling tournament. The draw for the 1980 fixtures took place in September 1979. The championship began on 25 May 1980 and ended on 7 September 1980. Mike McNamara
Michael McNamara (born 1949) is an Irish former hurling manager and former player. He played hurling with his local club Scariff from the 1960s until the 1980s. McNamara is also a publican and night club owner in Scariff and served as manager of the Offaly and Clare senior inter-county teams. Managerial career Offaly McNamara was appointed manager of the Offaly senior hurling team in November 2002. In his first season in charge, his team lost to Wexford in the Leinster semi-final on a scoreline of 0–16 to 1–12. In the subsequent qualifying campaign, Offaly overcame Dublin and Limerick to qualify for an All Ireland quarter final against Tipperary. They lost this match 2–16 to 2–11 after a relatively poor display. The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971. Since 2011 they have been presented jointly by the Gaelic Athletic Association and the representative body for inter-county players, the Gaelic Players Association. Joe Cooney
Joseph Cooney (born 17 March 1965) is an Irish former hurler who played as a centre-forward at senior level for the Galway county team. Born in Bullaun, County Galway, Cooney first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St Raphael's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Galway minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1983 championship. Cooney immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won two All-Ireland medals, three Connacht medals and three National Hurling League medals. Joe Dooley (Seir Kieran Hurler)
Joe Dooley (born 13 November 1963) is an Irish former hurler and manager. Dooley enjoyed a successful playing career at club level with Seir Kieran and is the only Offaly player ever to have won three All-Ireland titles. After a spell as player-manager with Seir Kieran, Dooley worked as manager with Tullamore, Toomevara and Offaly. He managed the Irish Senior International Shinty team for three years against Scotland and has managed the Linster Senior Hurling team for the period 2012 to 2014. Pat Cleary (born 15 January 1962) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Offaly senior team. Johnny Flaherty
John Flaherty (1947 – 20 December 2023) was an Irish hurler. He lined out at club level with Kinnitty and also played at inter-county level with Offaly. Flaherty usually lined out as a forward. Playing career Flaherty first played hurling at juvenile level with Kinnitty, winning an U-16 county medal in 1957. He made his senior team debut at the age of 17 and won an Offaly JHC medal in 1966 after losing the final the previous year. Flaherty claimed an Offaly SHC medal in 1967, after scoring 1-08 in the defeat of Coolderry. After emigrating to New York in the 1970s, he lined out with various Offaly teams in the city. Flaherty returned to Kinnitty and won further Offaly SHC titles in 1978 and 1979. Flaherty first played for Offaly as a minor before progressing to the under-21 and intermediate teams.
