São Bento Station (Porto Metro)
São Bento is an underground light rail station on line D of the Porto Metro system in Porto, Portugal. It is situated in front of the São Bento railway station, one of Porto's main railway stations, from which it takes its name. Immediately to the south of São Bento station, the line emerges from its tunnel in order to use the upper level of the Dom Luís I Bridge to cross over the Douro river. The central tunnelled section of line D, including São Bento station, opened on 17 September 2005, with trains initially running between Câmara de Gaia, to the south, and Pólo Universitário to the north. The line has since been extended from Câmara de Gaia to Vila d’Este, and from Pólo Universitário to Hospital de São João. The station is preceded by Aliados and followed by Jardim do Morro stations. The Porto Metro () is a light rail network in Porto, Portugal and a key part of the city's public transport system. Having a semi-metro alignment, it runs underground in central Porto and above ground into the city's suburbs while using low-floor tram vehicles. Pólo Universitário is an underground light rail station on line D of the Porto Metro system in Porto, Portugal. It is situated under Rua Alfredo Allen on the University of Porto campus, from which it takes its name. Immediately to the north of Pólo Universitário station, the line emerges from its tunnel and continues at street level for the remainder of its route. The central tunnelled section of line D, including Pólo Universitário station, opened on 17 September 2005, with trains initially running from Câmara de Gaia, to the south. Pólo Universitário was the northern terminus until 31 March 2006, when the line was extended to Hospital de São João. The line has since been extended from Câmara de Gaia to Vila d’Este. Casa da Música is an underground light rail station on the Porto Metro system in Porto, Portugal. It is situated on the and takes its name from the nearby Casa da Música concert hall. History The station was built on the site of the former on the gauge Porto to Póvoa and Famalicão railway line that operated into the Porto-Trindade terminus. Dom Luís I Bridge
The Dom Luís I Bridge (), or Luís I Bridge, is a double-deck metal arch bridge that spans the river Douro between the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal. At its construction, its span was the longest of its type in the world. It can be confused with the nearby Maria Pia Bridge, a railway bridge that was built 9 years earlier (and is located to the east), which is similar in aspect to the Luís I bridge.
