Sámi Grand Prix
The Sámi Grand Prix, often abbreviated as SGP, is a Sámi yoik and song music competition, competition organized annually by the Sámi Music Festival organization (, ), featuring participants from all corners of Sápmi. While the majority of its participants have been from the Norwegian side of Sápmi, Sámi from the Swedish, Finnish, and Russian sides have been increasingly participating in recent years too. Each participant submits an original piece to be performed live in an auditorium in Kautokeino (village), Kautokeino during the Sámi Easter Festival. Originally broadcast on the radio in a limited area, they have started to be shown on TV and livestreamed as well and can be watched from anywhere in the world. Listeners and viewers can cast their vote for their favorites in two categories. A combined televoting and jury result is calculated for each participant. Marit Gaup Eira or Šelgon Joreha Máret (born July 13, 1945) is a Northern Sámi reindeer herder, singer, and yoiker. She has won the yoiking category of the Sámi Grand Prix three times: in 1993, 1997, and 2003. She has also placed third in the same category three times: 1996, 1998, and 2002. Early life Marit Ragna Jørgensdatter Gaup (''Šelgon Joreha Máret'') and her twin sister Risten Sara Jørgensdatter Gaup (''Šelgon Joreha Risten Sárá'') were born on July 13, 1945, the fifth and sixth children of reindeer herders Jørgen Johansen Gaup (''Šelgon Joret'', 1893–1960) and Kristine Larsdatter Gaino (''Bánni Risten'', 1904–1977). A few years later, two more siblings were born, bringing the total up to 8. Later on, she married Mikkel Andersen Eira. Liet-Lávlut
Liet International (), formerly Liet-Lávlut, is an international music competition for songs in European minority and regional languages. The inaugural edition took place on 28 April 2002 as a spin-off of the West Frisian-language song contest (), held annually in Leeuwarden, Netherlands since 1991. Since 2006, Liet International has been held in a different city each year. The 2006 and 2008 editions, held in the Swedish part of Sápmi, were titled Liet-Lávlut ( is Northern Sami for 'sing'). The contest was cancelled in 2007 and 2013 when the hosting organisations, in Narbonne and Corsica respectively, backed out at a late stage, and in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No Liet International was held in 2005, 2015, 2016, 2019 or 2021. Due to its similarities to the Eurovision Song Contest, the competition has been dubbed the 'Eurovision of minority languages'.
