Hungary was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Candlelight", composed by Viktor Rakonczai, with lyrics by Jánosi and Imre Mózsik, and performed by Csézy. The Hungarian participating broadcaster, (MTV), selected its entry through the national final . 15 entries competed in the national final where "" performed by Csézy was selected as the winner based on the votes of a four-member jury panel as well as the votes from the public. The song was later translated from Hungarian to English for Eurovision and was titled "Candlelight". Composer Rakonczai had represented as part of the band V.I.P.. Hungary was drawn to compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 22 May 2008. Performing during the show in position 15, "Candlelight" was not among the 10 qualifying entries of the second semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final. Magyar Televízió (, ''Hungarian Television'') or MTV is a nationwide public television broadcasting organization in Hungary. Headquartered in Budapest, it is the oldest television broadcaster in Hungary and today airs five channels: M1 HD, M2 HD, M3, M4 Sport and M5. MTV is managed and primarily funded by the Media Service Support and Asset Management Fund (, abbreviated MTVA). Miklós Malek (composer)
Miklós Malek (born 3 June 1945, in Budapest, Hungary) is a Hungarian award winning composer and conductor. He has won many awards: Táncdalfesztivál - Hangszerelési díj (1969), Lyra-díj (1994), Fényes Szabolcs-díj (1996), EMeRTon-díj (2000), Erkel Ferenc-díj (2004) and Artisjus Életmű-díj (2004) He was admitted to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music where he graduated in 1970 obtaining the diploma after studying classical music. He joined Angyalföldi Dixieland Zenekar orchestra in 1963 and from 1969 onwards, he worked for two decades as band composer-arranger including from 1969 with Magyar Rádió (Hungarian Radio). From 1983 he worked as a musical director, including starting 1992 until 1999 with Magyar Televízió (Hungarian television). Hungary has been represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 17 times since making its debut in . Hungary attempted to participate in but failed to qualify from ''Kvalifikacija za Millstreet'', a special qualifying competition set up for seven former Eastern Bloc countries. Fool Moon (band)
Fool Moon is an a cappella group formed in Szeged, Hungary in September 2001. Through their out-of-the-ordinary music lessons, master classes and TV appearances, Fool Moon has brought the pop-acappella genre to the centre of attention in Hungary. Fool Moon has so far released 7 albums, got 13 international and Hungarian awards and prizes, and the band has collaborated with many of the most prestigious artists of the Hungarian music scene. Monika Hoffman
Monika Reneé Hoffman (11 March 1982) is a Swedish-Hungarian singer and songwriter from Malmö, Sweden. Monika Hoffman's was born in Malmö. Her father is Swedish and her mother is Hungarian, so she grew up speaking fluent Hungarian, Swedish, and English. At the age of three she began playing the violin and later on she also began playing the piano and the saxophone. As a child and teenager, she went to various music schools and later went on to study at Berklee College of Music. She was granted the Berklee College of Music World Tour Scholarship and got the opportunity to share the stage with people like Michael Brecker and Charlie Hayden. In 2005, she auditioned for the Hungarian Megasztar (Idol) and was selected to be part of the final 12. In spite of only placing ninth overall, she became one of the most popular and successful contestants from that season, kickstarting her career as a singer in Hungary. Compact Disco is a Hungarian electronic music band and music producer, musical producer trio based in Budapest, founded in 2008 by three musicians of varying musical backgrounds. The band represented Hungary in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Omega (band)
Omega was a Hungarian rock band formed in 1962, which has been described as the most successful Hungarian band in history. They released more than 20 albums both in Hungarian and English. After several early personnel changes, their classic lineup came together in 1971 and was intact for more than forty years. Singer Kóbor János, János Kóbor was with the band continuously from 1962 until his death in 2021; keyboardist/singer László Benkő was present from 1962 until his death in 2020. M1 (em egy) is a Hungary, Hungarian television channel owned and operated by Duna Média. It is also transmitted in High-definition television, high definition. The channel originally launched on 1 May 1957, as a Generalist channel, generalist channel, and was the Flagship (broadcasting), flagship channel of Magyar Televízió. On 15 March 2015, M1 was relaunched as a 24-hour News broadcasting, news channel, with all variety and entertainment programming being transferred to the channel Duna Televízió, Duna. While the channel's primary launguage is Hungarian, M1 also broadcasts once a day condensed versions of its news in English, German, Russian and Chinese. Erzsébet Csézi (born 9 October 1979 in Mezőkövesd) known professionally as Csézy, is a Hungarian pop singer. On 8 February 2008 she was chosen to represent Hungary at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade with the song " Candlelight". She finished last in the second semi-final on 22 May with six points.
