Enid Szánthó
Enid Szánthó (15 March 1907 – 1997, buried 21 April 1997) was a Hungarian operatic contralto. From 1928, she belonged to the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera and appeared at the Bayreuth Festival from 1930, first as Erda in ''Der Ring des Nibelungen''. She gave guest performances in opera and concert in Florence, London, Berlin, Paris, and New York at the Metropolitan Opera, where she made her debut as Fricka in 1938. Her career was de facto ended later that year when Austria came under the Nazi regime. Life and career Born in Budapest on 15 March 1907, Szánthó was the daughter of a Hungarian ministerial councillor and an Irish mother. She studied singing at the Königlich-Ungarische Musikakademie in Budapest and graduated with a diploma. One of her teachers was Laura Hilgermann. Theodor Szántó, also seen as Tivadar Szántó (3 June 18777 January 1934) was a Hungarian Jewish pianist and composer. Life and career Szántó was born in Vienna, then the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His family name was originally Smulevic, of Jewish and Slavic origin. His musical studies were in Vienna and Budapest, and with Ferruccio Busoni in Berlin 1898-1901. He resided in Paris from 1905, Switzerland from 1914, and Budapest from 1921 until his death there in 1934.Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians, 5th ed. (1954), Vol. VIII, p. 263 Szántó contributed substantially to the rewriting of the piano part of the third and final version of Frederick Delius’s Piano Concerto in C minor, and he introduced this version at a Prom Concert in London on 22 October 1907 under Henry Wood. Szanto Spur
The Priestley Glacier () is a major valley glacier, about long, originating at the edge of the Polar Plateau of Victoria Land, Antarctica. The glacier drains southeast between the Deep Freeze Range and Eisenhower Range to enter the northern end of the Nansen Ice Sheet. It was first explored by the Northern Party of the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910–13, and named for Raymond Priestley, a geologist with the Northern Party. Geography The Priestly Glacier is fed by the Priestly Névé, which lies to the east of the polar plateau, south of the Lister Nunataks, Brawn Rocks and Rennick Névé. It runs southeast between the Szanto Spur and Wasson Rock to the northeast and Clingman Peak, Tantalus Peak and the Ogden Heights to the southwest. Foolsmate Glacier joins it from the southwest.
