Szathmári Sándor (; 19 June 1897 – 16 July 1974) was a Hungarian writer, mechanical engineer, Esperantist, and one of the leading figures in Esperanto literature. Biography Family background Szathmári was born in Gyula. Szathmári's grandfather was a woodworker, who gave 100 forints for the founding of a local music school. His father, also called Sándor, studied law. He was an official of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He authored law books as a hobby, played the violin and painted. His father, the first intellectual in the family, and his ancestors spelled the family name with a "y" (Szathmáry). Szathmári's mother (Losonczy-Szíjjártó Margit) came from a pharmacist family in the city of Szeghalom, where she was the sole daughter of the family and lived well. János Szathmári (born 25 March 1969 in Nádudvar) is a Hungarian handball goalkeeper, who plays for Balatonfüredi KSE. Career Szathmári started his career by his hometown club Nádudvari SE. Later, he played for Debreceni Dózsa, before moving to KC Veszprém, where he achieved his best results of his career with five Hungarian Championship and five Hungarian Cup titles. Carol Szathmari (Romanian: Carol Popp de Szathmari, Hungarian: Szathmáry Pap Károly; 11 January 1812, Kolozsvár – 3 July 1887, Bucharest) was a Romania, Romanian painter, lithographer, and photographer of Hungarians, Transylvanian Hungarian origin, who was based in Bucharest from the age of 18 until his death. Peter Szatmari is a geologist born in Budapest, Hungary, where he graduated in geology at the Eötvös Loránd University. He obtained his PhD from the University of Edinburgh on salt (evaporites) and performed post-doctoral research at Princeton University. Peter Szatmari (born 1950) is a Canadian researcher of autism and Asperger syndrome. Education and career Szatmari was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, and his family moved to Toronto in 1953. He attended the Upper Canada College before going to study at McMaster University, where he majored in philosophy and psychology. He went on to attend medical school at McMaster University and obtained his M.D. in 1976. He completed his residency training at the same institution with British psychiatrist David Charles Taylor.
