Syracuse Eagles
The Syracuse Eagles were a professional ice hockey team based in Syracuse, New York. The team relocated from Jacksonville, Florida that summer who were known as the Jacksonville Barons and previously the Cleveland Barons who were one of the most historic and illustrious teams of the American Hockey League from the 1930s to the 1960s. The team played home games in the Onondaga County War Memorial Coliseum. The Eagles were a member of the American Hockey League for one season during 1974–1975, finishing fourth with a record of 21 wins, 43 losses and 11 ties. Coaching duties were split by Art Stratton, Billy Orr (on an interim basis) and John Hanna. The team leading scorer was Dick Sarrazin (33 goals and 37 assists in 75 games), with Jacques Caron registering a 3.70 goals against average during 50 games in goal. North American Hockey League (1973–77)
The North American Hockey League (NAHL) is one of the top junior hockey leagues in the United States and is in its 48th season of operation in 2022–23. It is the only Tier II junior league sanctioned by USA Hockey, and acts as an alternative to the Tier I United States Hockey League (USHL). The NAHL is one of the oldest junior hockey leagues in the United States and is headquartered in Addison, Texas. The teams span the United States from Maine in the East to Alaska in the Northwest and to Texas in the South. The teams play a 60-game regular season, starting in mid-September and ending in early April. The Eastern Hockey League was a minor professional United States ice hockey league. Eastern Amateur Hockey League (1933–1953) The league was founded in 1933 as the Eastern Amateur Hockey League (EAHL). The league was founded by Tommy Lockhart, who served as its commissioner from 1937 to 1972. Lockhart, who operated a small intramural hockey league at New York City's Madison Square Garden, offered his teams – and the use of the MSG ice – in exchange for joining the league. The EAHL operated between 1933–1948 and 1949–1953. The league had a somewhat tenuous existence. It began with seven teams, and had various numbers of teams, going as low as four. There was no 1948–49 season, but the league returned for the 1949–50 season with eight teams. The league again did not operate during the 1953–54 season. American Hockey League
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league based in the United States and Canada that serves as the primary developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL). Since the 2010–11 season, every team in the league has an affiliation agreement with one NHL team. When NHL teams do not have an AHL affiliate, players are assigned to AHL teams affiliated with other NHL teams. Twenty-six AHL teams are located in the United States and the remaining six are in Canada. The league offices are located in Springfield, Massachusetts, and its current president is Scott Howson. In general, a player must be at least 18 years of age to play in the AHL or not currently be beholden to a junior ice hockey team. Syracuse Blazers
The Syracuse Blazers were a minor league professional ice hockey team that played in the Onondaga County War Memorial and State Fair Coliseum in Syracuse, New York. The team played in the Eastern Hockey League from 1967 to 1973 and the North American Hockey League from 1973 to 1977. The Blazers won the final Walker Cup championship of the Eastern Hockey League during the 1972–73 season, compiling a 63–9–4 regular season record and beating the Roanoke Valley Rebels 4 games to 2 in the Walker Cup finals. Ray Adduono was the leading scorer on the team (54 goals, 116 assists in 76 games) and five other players scored 100 points or more. Ron Ingram was the coach and general manager on the team. Cleveland Barons (1937–1973)
The Cleveland Barons were a minor league professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League. They played in Cleveland, Ohio at the Cleveland Arena. The most successful team in AHL history, the original incarnation of the Barons played in the AHL from 1937 to 1973. In that time, they won ten division titles and nine Calder Cups, which, although the team had been defunct for over three decades, remained a record until 2009, when the Hershey Bears won their 10th Calder Cup.
