Hicksville, New York
Hicksville is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) within the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The CDP's population was 43,869 at the time of the 2020 census. History Hamlet namesake Valentine Hicks was the son-in-law of abolitionist and Quaker preacher Elias Hicks, and eventual president of the Long Island Rail Road. He bought land in the village in 1834 and turned it into a station stop on the LIRR in 1837. Hicksville was founded accidentally when a financial depression brought the LIRR to a stop at Broadway, Hicksville. The station slowly grew and though it started as a train station, it turned into a hotel then a real estate deal, even becoming a depot for produce, particularly cucumbers for a Heinz Company plant. Throgs Neck Bridge
The Throgs Neck Bridge is a suspension bridge in New York City, carrying six lanes of Interstate 295 (New York), Interstate 295 (I-295) over the East River where it meets the Long Island Sound. The bridge connects the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx with the Bay Terrace, Queens, Bay Terrace section of Queens. Muttontown is a village located within the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 3,497 at the 2010 census. it is part of the Greater Syosset area anchored by Syosset. History The area historically was inhabited by the Matinecock Native Americans, and European colonists began to settle in the area during the 1600s. During colonial times, the area was used to raise sheep for wool and meat. Muttontown incorporated as a village in 1931. The name of the village stems from its former use as pasturage for sheep.
