Svend Langkjær
Svend Langkjær (23 August 1886 – 2 May 1948) was a Danish track and field athlete who competed in the 1908 and 1912 Summer Olympics. In 1908, he competed in both the standing high jump and the standing long jump, finishing eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.42. In 1912 he competed in the decathlon. An athlete is most commonly a person who competes in one or more sports involving physical strength, speed, power, or endurance. Sometimes, the word "athlete" is used to refer specifically to sport of athletics competitors, i.e. including track and field and marathon runners but excluding e.g. swimmers, footballers or basketball players. However, in other contexts (mainly in the United States) it is used to refer to all athletics (physical culture) participants of any sport. The men's decathlon was a track and field athletics event held as part of the athletics at the 1912 Summer Olympics programme. The competition was held from Saturday, July 13, 1912, to Monday, July 15, 1912. It was the first time the decathlon, which had been introduced in 1911, was held at the Olympics; a different ten-event competition, the all-around, had been contested in St. Louis in 1904.
