Svartá
The Svartá river ("Black River") is a spring creek on the inner, western side of Skagafjörður, Iceland. A considerable amount of spring water runs in the river up to the highland where it then begins to resemble a direct run-off river as it flows on. The river surfaces in the Eyvindarstaðaheiði plateau and runs through Svartárdalur valley, then continues between Neðribyggð and Reykjatunga where there is a waterfall called Reykjafoss. Some ways below it, around Vindheimamelar, the river’s name changes to Húseyjarkvísl. Eyvindarstaðaheiði
Eyvindarstaðaheiði is an expansive plateau and rangeland located between the Blanda river in Austur-Húnavatnssýsla and Vestari-Jökulsá in Skagafjörður, Iceland. It is close to the Hofsjökull glacier at a lower elevation than the common grazing pastures in Skagafjörður and Húnavatnssýsla. Geography Eyvindarstaðaheiði is the easternmost of the plains that encompass the plateau from the north of Langjökull glacier and Kjölur. Auðkúluheiði plateau is west of Eyvindarstaðaheiði and east of that is Hofsafrétt. The plateau used to belong to Eyvindarstaðir in Blöndudalur valley, from which it derives its name. The area's grazing land is held collectively between Húnavatnssýsla and Skagafjörður counties, which border it. Svartárdalur
Svartárdalur is a valley deeper into the interior of Skagafjörður, Iceland. It was previously a part of Lýtingsstaðahreppur Lýtingsstaðahreppur was a hreppur, an old Icelandic municipality, in the interior of Skagafjörður County, Iceland, located to the west of the Héraðsvötn. It was named after the Lýtingsstaðir farm in Tungusveit. The spanned from the K ..., but now belongs to Skagafjörður County. It is a rather short valley and the Svartá river runs through it. There are few farms there, and some have been abandoned. The homestead Írafell is in the valley. Húseyjarkvísl
Húseyjarkvísl ("Húseyja Branch," named after the farm Húsey in Vallhólmur) is a rock stream in Skagafjörður, Iceland, that comes up to meet the Svartá ("Black River") in Eyvindarstaðaheiði. It runs down Svartárdalur along Reykjatunga into Vallhólmur, where its name then changes to Húseyjarkvísl. Tungusveit
Tungusveit is a district in Skagafjörður, Iceland and may have previously spanned the majority of Lýtingsstaðahreppur, but now only covers the spit of land between the Héraðsvötn and Svartá rivers, from Vallhólmur up to the mouth of the Svartárdalur and Vesturdalur valleys. Skagafjörður () is a deep fjord and its valley in northern Iceland. Spring Creek
A spring creek is a type of free flowing river whose name derives from its origin: an underground Spring (hydrology), spring or set of springs which produces sufficient water to consistently feed a unique river. Vallhólmur
Vallhólmur, also called Hólmurinn, is a flatland area in the middle of Skagafjörður, Iceland, formed from sediment from the Héraðsvötn river—it is in fact an old seabed. The area's eastern boundary is the Héraðsvötn and Húseyjarkvísl, and its western is Vindheimamelar. Vallhólmur becomes the Eylendið plain to the north, but the name "Eylendið" sometimes encompasses both areas. The region is flat and level except for two hills that rise up from the plain, Skiphóll and Vallholt.
