Svandís Svavarsdóttir
Svandís Svavarsdóttir (born 24 August 1964 in Selfoss, Iceland) is an Icelandic politician who has been Althing, member of the Althing since 2009. In October 2024, she was elected party leader of the Left-Green Movement. She served as Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources (Iceland), Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources in the Second cabinet of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, government of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir. In the First cabinet of Katrín Jakobsdóttir she served as Minister of Welfare (Iceland), Minister of Health. She was also the leader of the Left-Green Movement's parliamentary group. She served as the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture (Iceland), Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture in the Second cabinet of Katrín Jakobsdóttir before Bjarni Benediktsson (born 1970), Bjarni Benediktsson became Prime Minister, and she became Minister of Infrastructure (Iceland), Minister of Infrastructure. The Minister of Infrastructure in Iceland is the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure (formerly known as the Ministry of Transport and Local Government) and forms a part of the Cabinet of Iceland. Selfoss, Iceland
Selfoss () is a town in southern Iceland on the banks of the Ölfusá river. It is the seat of the municipality of Árborg. The Icelandic Route 1 runs through the town on its way between Hveragerði and Hella. The town is a centre of commerce and small industries with a population of around 10,000 (2023), making it the largest residential area in South Iceland. History Overview Selfoss was settled by Þórir Ásason sometime after 1000, but the sagas of Icelanders mention that Ingólfur Arnarson was there during the winter of 873-74, under the Ingólfsfjall mountain, which is west of the Ölfusá river. In the summer of 1891, due to the lobbying of Tryggvi Gunnarsson, a member of the Alþing, the first suspension bridge was built over the Ölfusá.
