Svalbarðshreppur () is a former municipality in northeastern Iceland, between Norðurþing and Langanesbyggð. The municipality was administered from Þórshöfn in the neighbouring Langanesbyggð municipality. Þórshöfn
Þórshöfn () or Thorshofn is a small fishing village in northeast Iceland, located on the northern coast of the Langanes peninsula on the Þistilfjörður bay. The village has a population of 380 people. It is the administrative centre of Langanesbyggð municipality and formerly of the neighbouring Svalbarðshreppur municipality until the two merged. The regions of Iceland are eight areas of Iceland that roughly follow the arrangement of parliamentary constituencies as they were between 1959 and 2003. These regions are not incorporated polities but rather recognized groupings of municipalities. Iceland only has two levels of administration, the national government and 62 municipalities. The municipalities have organized themselves into eight regional associations and those boundaries are also recognized by Statistics Iceland to report statistics. Since 2014, police and commissioner ('' sýslumaður'') districts have followed the eight region model with the exception that Vestmannaeyjar forms a special district and not part of the Southern Region. Northeast Constituency
Northeast () is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established in 2003 following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland when the Northeastern constituency was merged with the Eastern constituency (excluding Sveitarfélagið Hornafjörður municipality which was merged into the South constituency) and Siglufjörður municipality from the Northwestern constituency. Norðurþing
Norðurþing () is a municipality located in northern Iceland. Norðurþing was formed in 2006 when the municipalities of HúsavÃk, Öxarfjörður, Raufarhöfn, and Kelduneshreppur were merged after special elections in January 2006 and the region was officially declared a new municipality on 10 June 2006. The biggest town in the municipality is HúsavÃk, with a population of 2,307 inhabitants. Other settlements include Kópasker (population 122), Raufarhöfn (population 186), and Skinnastaður. HúsavÃk is known as the whale watching capital of Europe and is centrally located for visitors coming to the area who intend to visit Mývatn, Dettifoss, Goðafoss, or the Vatnajökull National Park.
