Survival (Doctor Who)
''Survival'' is the final serial of the 26th season of the British science fiction television series '' Doctor Who'', which was first broadcast in three weekly parts on BBC1 from 22 November to 6 December 1989. It is also the final story of the series' original 26-year run; it did not return regularly until 2005. It marks the final regular television appearances of Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace, and is also the final appearance of Anthony Ainley as the Master, the latter appearing alongside McCoy's Doctor for the only time. Journalist Matthew Sweet has described ''Survival'' as "a parable about Thatcherism" that shares multiple characteristics with the later David Tennant era of ''Doctor Who''. Alan Wareing
Alan Wareing (born 16 August 1943 in Chorley, Lancashire) is a British television director. He became interested in directing through amateur theatre. He directed many plays before he started working in BBC Television, firstly as an assistant floor manager and then as a production assistant, before training to be a director at the corporation. Thatcherism is a form of British conservative ideology named after Conservative Party leader Margaret Thatcher that relates to not just her political platform and particular policies but also her personal character and general style of management while in office. Proponents of Thatcherism are referred to as Thatcherites. Matthew Sweet (writer)
Matthew Sweet (born 2 December 1969) is an English journalist, broadcaster, author, and cultural historian. A graduate of the University of Oxford, he has been interviewed on many documentaries about television for the BBC and Channel 4. Early life Born in Hull, Sweet received a doctorate from Oxford on Wilkie Collins. Career Sweet was among the contributors to '' The Oxford Companion to English Literature'' and was both film and television critic for ''The Independent on Sunday''. Sweet's book, ''Shepperton Babylon: The Lost Worlds of British Cinema'' (2005) is a history of the British film business from the silent days, and includes interviews with surviving figures from the period. ''Dimensions in Time'' is a charity special crossover between the British science fiction television series '' Doctor Who'' and the soap opera '' EastEnders'' that ran in two parts on 26 and 27 November 1993. It was filmed on location at Greenwich and the ''EastEnders'' Albert Square set, situated at the BBC Elstree Centre in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. ''The Curse of Fenric'' is the third serial of the 26th season of the British science-fiction television series '' Doctor Who'', which was first broadcast in four weekly parts on BBC1 from 25 October to 15 November 1989. Dominic Francis Glynn (born 27 September 1960 in Cuckfield, Sussex) is an English electronic composer. Glynn is a prolific composer of music for television and film. His work includes the arrangement of the ''Doctor Who'' theme music which served as the series' theme for Season 23 of the programme. It was replaced by Keff McCulloch's arrangement the next season.
