Suraiya
Suraiya Jamal Sheikh (15 June 1929 – 31 January 2004), mononymously known as Suraiya, was an Indian actress and playback singer who worked in Hindi films. She is regarded as one of the greatest and finest actresses in the history of Indian cinema. In a career spanning from 1936 to 1964, Suraiya acted in over Suraiya filmography, 70 films and sang 338 songs. She was known for her strong on-screen portrayals in a variety of genres. Suraiya was the most celebrated actress between the mid- to late 1940s and early 1950s and was paid more than her male counterparts. Born in Lahore, Suraiya relocated to Bombay (now Mumbai) with her family when she was 1 year old. Dev Anand (; born Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand; 26 September 1923 – 3 December 2011) was an Indian actor, writer, director and producer known for his work in Indian cinema, Hindi cinema. He is considered as one of the greatest and most successful actors in the history of Indian cinema. Through a career that spanned over six decades, he worked in more than Dev Anand filmography, 100 films. Anand is a recipient of four Filmfare Awards, including two for Filmfare Award for Best Actor, Best Actor. The Government of India honoured him with Padma Bhushan, Indian third highest civilian honour in 2001 and with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002. Dard (1947 Film)
''Dard'' (Pain) is a 1947 Bollywood drama film directed by Abdul Rashid Kardar. The film was produced by Kardar Productions. It was a surprise "musical hit" at the box office as it had an ordinary (for then) star cast. Suraiya played the second lead, with Munawwar Sultana as the main heroine. The film was Suraiya's first "big hit", becoming a popular singing star following the success of the film. The hero of the film was Kardar's brother Nusrat (Kardar), who shifted to Pakistan following Partition in 1947, where he acted in a few films. The music director was Naushad who composed the "hit" songs for the film, which continue to remain popular. Shair (1949 Film)
is a 1949 Indian Hindi-language film. The film had Dev Anand, opposite Suraiya and Kamini Kaushal in the eternal love triangle. After Beena's mother dies her father Seth Jwalaprasad marries Gracie in vilayat (England?) and returns to India with Gracie and her daughter from a previous relationship/marriage Flora. This Anglo-Indian mother-daughter duo are shown to be opportunistic, manipulating Jwalaprasad for financial support, while mistreating Beena variously. Once Jwalaprasad dies and leaves only 1/4th of his possessions to the Anglo duo and the rest to Beena, the duo hatch a plan to get rid of Beena. Mumtaz Mahal (; ; born Arjumand Banu Begum; 27 April 1593 – 17 June 1631) was the empress consort of Mughal Empire from 1628 to 1631 as the chief consort of the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan.
