Supergrass
Supergrass are an English rock band formed in 1993. For the majority of the band's tenure, the line-up consisted of brothers Gaz (lead vocals, guitar) and Rob Coombes (keyboards), Mick Quinn (bass, backing vocals) and Danny Goffey (drums, backing vocals). Originally a three-piece, the band was officially joined by Rob Coombes in 2002. The band signed to Parlophone Records in 1994 and produced '' I Should Coco'' (1995), the best-selling debut album for the label since the Beatles' '' Please Please Me''. Their first album's fourth single, " Alright", was an international hit. The band went on to release five more albums: '' In It for the Money'' (1997), ''Supergrass'' (1999), '' Life on Other Planets'' (2002), '' Road to Rouen'' (2005) and '' Diamond Hoo Ha'' (2008), as well as a compilation called '' Supergrass Is 10'' (2004). I Should Coco
''I Should Coco'' is the debut studio album by English alternative rock band Supergrass, released on 15 May 1995 by Parlophone. The title of the album is Cockney rhyming slang for "I should think so". Supergrass were formed in 1993 by Gaz Coombes, Mick Quinn and Danny Goffey, and they released their debut single, "Caught by the Fuzz", in October 1994 on the small independent local label Backbeat Records. Success of the single brought a major label record deal. ''I Should Coco'' was recorded in Cornwall and produced by Sam Williams, who had been impressed by the band while scouting in Oxford. At the height of the Britpop era, the album became the band's most successful release when it reached number one on the UK Albums Chart, and subsequently gained platinum status, selling over a million copies worldwide and 500,000 in the UK. ''Supergrass'' is the third studio album by the English alternative rock band Supergrass. It was released in the UK on 20 September 1999 and reached #3. It is often referred to as "the X-ray album", due to the picture on the sleeve. In Australia a free CD was included with some live tracks. In 2022, the album was remastered and reissued as a 2CD deluxe edition, which includes new remixes of several of the songs created by John Leckie and John Cornfield among other bonus tracks. Road To Rouen
''Road to Rouen'' is the fifth studio album by English rock band Supergrass. The album was released in the UK on 15 August 2005 by Parlophone, and in the US on 27 September 2005 by Capitol Records. The title refers to the city in northern France where the album was recorded, as well as the 1978 album '' Road to Ruin'' by punk rock band the Ramones. ''Road to Rouen'' was a difficult album for the band for personal reasons, including Danny Goffey's tabloid ordeal and the death of Gaz and Rob Coombes' mother. The album reflected a rough period for the band and was oriented towards longer, looser, more orchestral material. The record was highly acclaimed and well received by most fans of the band; it reached a respectable number 9 on the UK Albums Chart. Life On Other Planets
''Life on Other Planets'' is the fourth studio album by English alternative rock band Supergrass. It is the first album that includes Rob Coombes as an official member of the band, and originally went under the working title of ''Get Lost''. The American edition of the album included many bonus tracks and rare live editions. One of these live editions became infamous when it was discovered you can hear a gunshot in the background of the song. It peaked at #9 in the UK charts. Background The band hired an outside producer, Tony Hoffer, for the record, having felt that their last release, ''Supergrass (album), Supergrass'', lacked some of the urgency of their previous albums: "He helped us keep the takes quite short and sweet", says Danny Goffey. "We really didn't mess around because he kept us moving. If we had done it on our own again, we'd just get really analytical and start crying and trying to mend things that weren't broken." Diamond Hoo Ha
''Diamond Hoo Ha'' is the sixth and final studio album by British alternative rock band Supergrass, released in the UK on 24 March 2008, and offers a return to punchier Supergrass songs, in comparison to the more mellow '' Road to Rouen'', their previous album released in 2005. Several songs appearing on the album were performed at Guilfest 2007. In November 2007, the track "Diamond Hoo Ha Man"—one of the songs debuted at Guilfest—was distributed as the first single on a limited vinyl release, restricted to 1500 copies. " Bad Blood" followed as the second single on 17 March 2008, peaking in the top 75 at number 73. The third single, "Rebel in You" with B-side "Car Crash", was limited to 1500 copies on 7" white vinyl only and released on 30 June 2008 via Supergrass Records (the release date and distribution, however, were delayed past 30 June due to a problem at the record pressing plant). Gaz Coombes
Gareth Michael "Gaz" Coombes (born 8 March 1976) is an English musician, best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the alternative rock band Supergrass. He first entered the music scene aged 14 as the lead singer of the band The Jennifers which featured Supergrass bandmate Danny Goffey. Early life Born on 8 March 1976 in Oxford, Coombes is the son of Eileen and John Coombes. His father was a food scientist, who enjoyed playing jazz piano, and his mother was an English teacher. Although he was born in England, he lived with his family in San Francisco, California, from around the age of 5 up until the age of 9, at which point in 1985 they moved to Oxford in England. Coombes played classical piano at this age, but gradually moved on to an interest in playing guitar. Alright (Supergrass Song)
"Alright" is a song by British alternative rock band Supergrass. It was released with "Time" as a double A-side single from their debut album, '' I Should Coco'' (1995), on 3 July 1995 by Parlophone. It was concurrently released on the soundtrack of the 1995 movie '' Clueless'', which helped it become a big hit for the band. "Alright" peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart, number six in Iceland, number eight in Ireland, number 21 in Finland and number 30 in France. The music video for the song was directed by Dom and Nic and filmed at Portmeirion in North Wales. Music and lyrics The "bona fide teen anthem", with its upbeat lyrics and cheerful piano tune, seemed to epitomise British youth culture at the time, when Britpop was at its height. Danny Goffey
Daniel Robert Goffey (born 7 February 1974) is an English musician and singer-songwriter. He is best known as the drummer and backing vocalist for Supergrass. He briefly toured with Babyshambles in 2010, following their drummer's departure. Career 1990–1993: The Jennifers Goffey was born on 7 February 1974 in Eton, Berkshire, and started his music career as a child when he formed his first band, The Jubbly Spufflewubs, which consisted of his brother on guitar and friend David Mackay. He had no drums so had to accompany the others by hitting chopsticks on lunch boxes. At age 10 he received a high hat and snare from his parents, prompting him to start his other band, The Fallopian Tubes. Supergrass Is 10
''Supergrass Is 10'' is a compilation album celebrating the first 10 years of the band Supergrass. It includes singles from their first release, " Caught by the Fuzz" (1994), to their then latest release, " Kiss of Life" (2004). The compilation was released on CD, DVD and double 10" clear vinyl record. The DVD release contains two discs. The first disc is a documentary of the band's first 10 years. The second disc contains videos of all of the singles (with the exception of " Cheapskate") with the option of director's commentary and karaoke lyrics. The song compilation managed to reach No. 4 in the UK charts. In the US, the CD version came with a bonus live CD featuring 12 live and acoustic songs. John Cornfield recorded and mixed the two new tracks featured on the album at Sphere Studios. Dom And Nic
dom&nic is the working name of directors Nic Goffey and Dominic Hawley. They have been directing music videos and commercials since 1994. They have won numerous awards for their work, including the Gold Lion at the 1999 Cannes International Advertising Festival for their Nike ''What Are You Getting Ready For'' commercials and also won the MTV Best Video Award for The Chemical Brothers' "Believe (Chemical Brothers song), Believe". Mick Quinn
Mick Quinn (born 17 December 1969) is an English musician and singer-songwriter. He is best known as founding member of English rock band Supergrass. He is a permanent member of fellow Oxford band Swervedriver. Career 1984–1993 Mick Quinn started playing bass at the age of 14. A year later moving to guitar. He played with The Asylum in 1986, a band featuring Kid Wig, guitarist with the Beat Seeking Missiles, in and around Oxford including the Port Meadow Festival. In the late 1980s he became interested in record production, renting and borrowing equipment to experiment with at home. He also travelled to Spain and France to play with local musicians before returning to England in 1992. 1993–2010: Supergrass Quinn formed Supergrass with Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey in February 1993.
