Supercheap Auto Racing was the sponsored identity of several Australian based racing teams from the mid-1990s when automotive parts retail chain Supercheap Auto began sponsoring motor racing teams. The identity has travelled from one racing team to another as the chain transferred its sponsorship. Supercheap Auto is an Australian automotive parts and accessories retailer. It was founded in 1972, operating as a mail-order business and opened its first store in Brisbane in 1974. It now has 300 stores across Australia and New Zealand. History Supercheap Auto was founded by Reg and Hazel Rowe in 1972 as a mail-order business. The couple sold imported battery chargers and other automotive accessories from their home. In 1974, they opened their first store in Fortitude Valley. The company has over 300 stores throughout Australia and also in New Zealand, the 250th being Timaru in New Zealand and the 300th being Holden Hill in South Australia. Steven Ellery Racing was an Australia motorsport team which contested several series in its home country, including as the Supercheap Auto Racing V8 Supercar team. The team ceased operations at the end of 2005, with the lead driver Steven Ellery moving to Triple Eight Race Engineering for the 2005 season. Cameron 'Conkers' McConville (born 22 January 1974) is an Australian racing driver and motorsport celebrity. While retired from full-time competition, McConville still races occasionally and is an in-demand endurance event co-driver. McConville spent 14 years as a professional driver, ten of those in the largest Australian domestic category, Supercars Championship. McConville has also written for several magazines and presented several television programs and up until the end of the 2009 season was the colour commentator for Network Ten's Australian coverage of Formula One. The Holden Commodore (VZ) is a full-size car that was produced by Holden from 2004 to 2006 as a sedan and to 2007 as a wagon and Ute sold alongside the new VE series. It was the fourth and final iteration of the third generation of the Commodore and the last to spawn a coupé variant. Paul Weel Racing was an Australian motor racing team which competed in the V8 Supercars Championship Series between 1998 and 2008. Ford Years After some brief appearances in 1997 in minor events, Paul Weel Racing debuted in the 1998 Australian Touring Car Championship with Paul Weel driving an ex- Longhurst Racing constructed Ford EL Falcon.
