Super Derby
The Super Derby is an American thoroughbred horse race held annually in September at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, Louisiana. Inaugurated in 1980, the Super Derby is open to three-year-olds and the distance is miles on the dirt. It is the richest race held at Louisiana Downs. In its history, the Super Derby has attracted some of the top horses in the country including winners of all three American Classic Races. The Super Derby was a Grade I race from 1983 to 2001. In 2002, it was downgraded to Grade II and in 2016, it was downgraded again to Grade III. It was originally run at the American classic distance of miles, but in 2002 the distance was reduced to miles (the exception being 2005 when the distance reverted to miles). Michael Maker
Michael J. Maker (born February 7, 1969) is an American trainer of Thoroughbred racehorses. The son of a trainer, he learned the business from his father then set up his own public stable in 1991. In 1993 he went to work as an assistant to U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas where he remained until going out on his own again in 2003. Mike Maker's most important wins came with Furthest Land in the 2009 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile with Hansen who would earn American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt honors, and the 2020 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf with Fire At Will. Godolphin Stables, also known as Stanley House Stables, is a thoroughbred racehorse ownership, training and breeding operation in Newmarket, Suffolk, which has produced many notable horses. It is one of the most famous racing establishments in the world and is currently owned and operated by Godolphin Racing, the UK's largest flat racing operation. History and ownership The stables were built by Frederick Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby (also the namesake of the Stanley Cup in North American ice hockey), in 1903 and originally named Stanley House stables after Lord Derby's nearby house. Richard Migliore (born March 14, 1964, in Babylon, New York) is a retired American jockey. He now works as a racing analyst for XBTV. He was nicknamed "The Mig," which is a type of Russian fighter jet, for his tenacious style of riding. He lives with his wife, Carmela, and children in Millbrook, New York. Early life Migliore grew up in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. When he was 11, his family moved into a bigger house in Bay Shore, New York. Ahmed Zayat (Ahmed El-Zayat) (; ) (born August 31, 1962) is an Egyptian-American businessman and owner of Thoroughbred race horses. Rafael Bejarano
Rafael Bejarano (born June 23, 1982) is a Pervuian jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. He trained at the Peruvian national riding school before embarking on his professional career in 1999. Having met with success, including winning the apprentice riding title at Hipódromo de Monterrico in Lima, he emigrated to the United States in the spring of 2002 and settled in Louisville, Kentucky.
