The land enclosed by the present state borders was joined to the United States of America gradually. Area code 251 is a telephone numbering plan code covering southwestern Alabama serving Mobile, Baldwin, and Washington counties and parts of six other counties. It was created on June 18, 2001, as a split from area code 334. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. McIntosh, Alabama
McIntosh is a town located in Washington County, Alabama, United States along U.S. Route 43. It is south of Wagarville and north of Mobile. It was named for William McIntosh, a prominent Creek chief of the nineteenth century. The town was incorporated on April 7, 1970. The population as of the 2020 U.S. Census was 206, down from 238 in 2010.
