Suncoast Conference
The Suncoast Conference (SCC), hosted by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), is one of four conferences within Region 8 of the NJCAA. It is composed of four state colleges within the state of Florida, and is administered by the Florida State College Activities Association (FCSAA). Conference championships are held in most sports and individuals can be named to All-Conference and All-Academic teams. NJCAA
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) is the governing association of community college, State college (other), state college, and junior college athletics throughout the United States. Currently the NJCAA holds 24 separate regions across 24 states and is divided into 3 divisions. History The idea for the NJCAA was conceived in 1937, in Fresno, California. A handful of junior college representatives met to organize an association that would promote and supervise a national program of junior college sports and activities consistent with the educational objectives of junior colleges. A constitution was presented and adopted at the charter meeting in Fresno on May 14, 1938. In 1949, the NJCAA was reorganized by dividing the nation into sixteen regions. NJCAA Region 8
Region 8 of the National Junior College Athletic Association comprises at least 26 community and state colleges from the Florida college system. All members of the NJCAA Region 8 are Division I, excluding Pasco–Hernando State College, which is in Division II. Florida State College Activities Association
Florida College System Activities Association Incorporated (FCSAA) is the governing body for all extracurricular activities of the member schools of the Florida College System. Activities include athletics, Brain Bowl, forensics, music, publications, theater, and student government. The athletic programs fall under The NJCAA Region 8. There are currently 28 schools in the FCSAA. In the 1960s, twelve historically black institutions were merged into other colleges within their districts, with full integration being achieved by 1966. Hillsborough Community College
Hillsborough Community College (HCC) is a public community college in Hillsborough County, Florida. It is part of the Florida College System. History HCC was one of the last community colleges to be created in Florida, founded in 1968. Only Pasco–Hernando State College, out of the 28-school Florida community college system, was founded later. In January 2008 the school opened its first residence hall, Hawk's Landing, named after the school mascot. This marks HCC as one of the few community colleges with its own residence hall. Polk State College (PSC) is a public college based in Winter Haven, Florida, United States, and is part of the Florida College System.
