Subprefecture Of Jaçanã-Tremembé
The Subprefecture of Jaçanã-Tremembé is one of 32 subprefectures of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It comprises two districts: Jaçanã and Tremembé Tremembé is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. It is part of the Metropolitan Region of Vale do Paraíba e Litoral Norte. Jaçanã (district Of São Paulo)
Jaçanã () is a district of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It constitutes with Tremembé the subprefecture Jaçanã-Tremembé, marking the northern boundaries of the city. Like Parelheiros, most of the area of this borough is rural, although in the southern areas there is an urban area. It contains the Cantareira Park, the largest native urban forest in the world. In 1870, the borough was known as Uroguapira because it was thought that there was gold ( Portuguese ''ouro'') in the area. As this was only a rumor, the name given by the aboriginal people for the region of the Cantareira was shortened to Guapira. On 1 June 1930, the name of the borough was changed to Jaçanã (a bird known in English as the wattled jacana).
