Stuff is a New Zealand news media website owned by newspaper conglomerate Stuff Ltd (formerly called Fairfax). As of early 2024, it is the most popular news website in New Zealand, with a monthly unique audience of more than 2 million. Stuff was founded in 2000, and publishes breaking news, weather, sport, politics, video, entertainment, business and life and style content from Stuff Ltd's newspapers, which include New Zealand's second- and third-highest circulation daily newspapers, ''The Post'' and '' The Press'', and the highest circulation weekly, '' Sunday Star-Times'', as well as international news wire services. Stuff Limited (previously Fairfax New Zealand) is a privately held news media company operating in New Zealand. It operates Stuff, the country's largest news website, and owns nine daily newspapers, including New Zealand's second and third-highest circulation daily newspapers, '' The Post'' and ''The Press'', and the highest circulation weekly, '' Sunday Star-Times''. Magazines published include ''TV Guide (New Zealand), TV Guide'', New Zealand's top-selling weekly magazine. Stuff also owns social media network Neighbourly. The ''Wairarapa Times-Age'' is the regional daily paper for New Zealand's Wairarapa where it is prepared, and published in Masterton. History Predecessors Of the first newspapers published in the region — the ''Wairarapa Mercury'' (later ''Standard''), the ''Wairarapa News'', the ''Wairarapa Register'' and the ''Newsletter'' — all except the ''Newsletter'' were forced to close down by fires in 1937, 1872 and 1878 respectively. However the ''Wairarapa News'' began again six years after the fire on 30 October 1878. This paper merged with the ''Wairarapa Free Press'' on 11 September 1878 to form the ''Wairarapa Daily'' which became the ''Wairarapa Daily Times'' in 1892. The ''Taranaki Daily News'' is a daily morning newspaper published in New Plymouth, New Zealand. History The paper was founded as the ''Taranaki News'' on 14 May 1857, by friends of former Taranaki Province Superintendent Charles Brown.J.S. Tullett, ''The Industrious Heart: A History of New Plymouth'', New Plymouth City Council, 1981. Brown was the first proprietor of the newspaper and he appointed his political supporter and former '' Taranaki Herald'' editor Richard Pheney as its editor. The paper, initially housed in a small wooden building on the east side of Brougham Street opposite the present library, became a strident critic of the ''Herald'' and the provincial government. ''Newsroom'' is a New Zealand online news publication that was founded by Tim Murphy and Mark Jennings in 2017 and is co-edited by them. It focuses on New Zealand politics, current affairs and social issues. History Original NewsRoom The original website at newsroom.co.nz was launched by Peter Fowler on 21 November 1996 and was called ''NewsRoom''. It aggregated breaking news and press releases. Fowler sold it to NZX in 2007, and they sold it to Craig Pellett's company Sublime (now called Streamline) in 2014. Pellett's company sold it to Newsroom NZ Ltd in 2017. It has a circulation to the greater Waikato region and became a tabloid paper in 2018. Sinead Marie Boucher ( O'Hanlon; born 26 June 1970) is a New Zealand journalist and chief executive of Stuff Ltd. On 31 May 2020 she became the owner of Stuff Ltd and in July 2023 became executive chair. Early life and family Born in 1970 to Sean and Mary O'Hanlon, Boucher moved with her family from Belfast, Northern Ireland, to Christchurch, New Zealand, when she was about three years old. She was educated at Villa Maria College. After beginning to study law at the University of Canterbury, she dropped out and worked at McDonald's, before returning to Ireland for a time. In 1992, she returned to New Zealand and completed a six-month journalism course at Aoraki Polytechnic in Timaru, where she met her future husband, Mark Boucher.
