Student Sport Ireland
Student Sport Ireland (SSI), formerly the Colleges and Universities Sports Association of Ireland (CUSAI), is a non-governmental organisation, recognised as the governing body for sport in third-level education in Ireland, working with educational institutions and the governing bodies of specific sports. CUSAI was originally formed in 2005 following the merger of the Irish Student Sports Association and the Council of University Sports Administrators in Ireland. It was renamed in 2013. The organisation receives some financial support from Sport Ireland. As of 2025, SSI reportedly had three full-time employees based in Sport HQ at the National Sports Campus. The organisation coordinates participation in international programmes, including the multi sport FISU World University Games (or Universiade) and FISU Championships. Third-level education in Ireland includes all education after second-level, encompassing higher education in universities and colleges and further education on Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) and other courses. The degree-awarding institutions which can grant awards at all academic levels are the University of Dublin, National University of Ireland ( Cork, Dublin, Galway and Maynooth), University of Limerick, Dublin City University, Technological University Dublin, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Munster Technological University, Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest, Atlantic Technological University and South East Technological University, as well as St Patrick's College, Maynooth (Pontifical University). Sport Ireland
Sport Ireland (), formerly the Irish Sports Council, is a statutory authority that oversees, and partly funds, the development of sport within Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is located at the National Sports Campus in the townland of Sheephill near Abbotstown (townland), Abbotstown House in Dublin. Sport Ireland was established in July 1999 under powers provided by the Irish Sports Council Act. Its remit is to plan, lead and co-ordinate the sustainable development of competitive and recreational sport in Ireland. Sport Ireland comprises eight major divisions including: Finance, High Performance, Local Sports Partnerships, National Governing Bodies, the Anti-Doping Unit, Corporate Services, the National Trails Office, and the Irish Institute of Sport. National Sports Campus
The National Sports Campus ()- (sometimes known as Sports Campus Ireland, Sport Ireland Campus or Irish Sport HQ) is a large site in the western suburbs of Dublin, Ireland, which contains a number of sporting facilities. It is operated by the National Sports Campus Development Authority and is home to a number of sports venues, including the National Indoor Arena, National Aquatic Centre, and National Horse Sport Arena. Several national sports governing bodies, including the Gaelic Athletic Association, have sports facilities on the campus. FISU World University Games
The FISU World University Games, formerly the Universiade, is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The former name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students. In July 2020 as part of a new branding system by the FISU, it was stated that the Universiade was to be officially branded as the FISU World University Games. The most recent summer event was the 2021 Summer World University Games held in Chengdu, China from 28 July – 8 August 2023, after being postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The FISU World University Championships are part of the sporting events of the International University Sports Federation. Launched the FISU World University Championships in 1963, with Lund, Sweden hosting the Handball event. Championships In the year of the Universiade, the Championships shall be the same as the World Games tournament. The programme of the World University Championships is subject to change and currently includes 37 sports.
