Strunk–Nyssen House
The Strunk–Nyssen House is a historic property in Jackson Township, Minnesota, United States, just outside the city of Shakopee. The original wing of the house was built around 1856 for Herman H. Strunk, who established the area's first brewery on the site. The brewery went by several names over the course of its existence, but is commonly referred to as the Shakopee Brewery. The residence was enlarged around 1880 by Hubert and Mary Nyssen, who used the second floor as a boarding house. With The Nyssens continued operating the brewery until 1920. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 for its significance in the themes of architecture, commerce, exploration/settlement, and industry. It was nominated for its long association with the important brewing industry of early Scott County and as an example of 19th-century vernacular architecture. Jackson Township is a township in Scott County, Minnesota, United States. Organized in 1858, Jackson Township's population was 1,616 at the 2020 census. While the origin of its name is not recorded, it is most likely named after President Andrew Jackson. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township had an area of in 2000, of which was land and (2.65%) was water. While the township formerly included a large area south of Shakopee, that has since been annexed by the city, and it is reduced to a smaller area to the west of the city. Minnesota Valley State Trail
Minnesota Valley State Trail is a 27-mile (43 km), multi-use trail in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area that runs parallel to the Minnesota River from the cities of Belle Plaine to Shakopee. A 10-mile (16 km) segment of the trail from Chaska to Shakopee is paved. Allowable trail uses include hiking, biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. First established in 1969, and never fully completed, the trail is undergoing a 13.5 mile (22 km) extension in 2019 and 2020. Route Minnesota Valley State Trail weaves in and out of floodplain areas and forests, with dense oak forests, oak savannas, wetlands, and lakes as the most common features.
