Streets (film)
''Streets'' is a 1990 American drama film directed by Katt Shea and starring Christina Applegate and David Mendenhall. Plot Dawn, a drug-addicted teen prostitute living on the streets of Los Angeles, and Sy, a teenage boy with dreams of becoming a rock star, become friends after Sy rescues Dawn from a violent john. Dawn takes Sy under her wing and gives him a guided tour of the seedy underworld of Hollywood. Kathleen Ann Shea (born October 9, 1959) is an American actress, film director, and acting teacher. She is best known for directing the erotic thriller ''Poison Ivy (1992 film), Poison Ivy'', which was nominated for the 1992 Sundance Grand Jury Prize. Early life Shea was born in Detroit, Michigan to an artist father and nurse mother. She studied teaching at the University of Michigan from which she graduated with honors. After graduating, she spent six months teaching blind children, before taking off at age 19 to Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hollywood, California where she started her early modeling career and for a short time attended University of California, Los Angeles. ''FUBAR'' is a 2002 Canadian comedy film directed by Michael Dowse and written by Dave Lawrence, Dowse and Paul Spence, following the lives of two lifelong friends and head-bangers, Terry Cahill and Dean Murdoch. It debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. Since its release, it has gained a cult status in North America, particularly in Western Canada. Filmed and set in and around Edmonton, Alberta, it was shot on a Canon XL1, on a shoestring budget; Lawrence maxed out his credit card, and his father refinanced their family home, to complete it. The film features characters created by Lawrence and Paul Spence that they developed based on the head-banger subculture. Terry Cahill, one of the main characters, played by Lawrence, was based on a character he created at Loose Moose Theatre in the mid-'90s. A B movie, or B film, is a type of cheap, low-budget commercial motion picture. Originally, during the Classical Hollywood cinema, Golden Age of Hollywood, this term specifically referred to films meant to be shown as the lesser-known second half of a double feature, somewhat similar to A-side and B-side, B-sides in recorded music. However, the production of such films as "second features" in the United States largely declined by the end of the 1950s. This shift was due to the rise of commercial television, which prompted film studio B movie production departments to transition into television film production divisions.
