Stree (2018 Film)
''Stree'' () is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language comedy horror film directed by debutant Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Raj & DK. It stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, alongside Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee. The plot is based on the urban legend '' Naale Baa'', the words meaning "come tomorrow" in Kannada and modified as ''o stree kal aana'' ("o woman come tomorrow" in Hindi) in the film. In late November 2017, Raj & DK approached Rao to star in their debut production. To prepare for his role as a tailor, Rao learned to sew. In December, Shraddha Kapoor was confirmed as the female lead. Amar Kaushik was enlisted to direct the film in January 2018. Principal photography began on 13 January 2018 in Chanderi, with additional filming in Bhopal and Mumbai. The final schedule was completed in May 2018. Amar Kaushik is an Indian filmmaker. He is best known for directing the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe films '' Stree'' (2018), '' Bhediya'' (2022), and '' Stree 2'' (2024), as well as the satire '' Bala'' (2019). Early life He was born in Kanpur city in the state of Uttar Pradesh in a Gaur Brahmin family. Amar Kaushik grew up in Medo, Arunachal Pradesh where his father was a forest ranger who worked for the Indian Forest Service and his mother Shashi was a school teacher. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He later studied mass communications in Delhi and moved to Mumbai in 2006. Career Kaushik began his film career in 2008, working as Raj Kumar Gupta's assistant director on '' Aamir''. ''Bhediya'' (; ''Wolf'') is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language comedy horror film directed by Amar Kaushik. Produced by Dinesh Vijan from a story and screenplay by Niren Bhatt, it stars Varun Dhawan alongside Kriti Sanon, Abhishek Banerjee, Deepak Dobriyal and Paalin Kabak. The plot of the film is inspired by Arunachal Pradesh folklore about a Yapum, a shape-shifting werewolf, who wants to protect the jungle, even if they have to kill somebody. This marks the second collaboration between Dhawan and Sanon since Dilwale (2015). It is the second installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe.
