Storkeegen I Jægerspris Nordskov - Mapillary (VxJoQZbhNNR2kFQtD0VSjw)
Storkeegen was a pedunculate oak located in Jægerspris Nordskov, near the town Jægerspris in Denmark. The remains of Storkegen are located in the same forest as Kongeegen and Snoegen. All that remains of the ancient oak is a piece of the trunk. In 1974 the trunk broke just above the lowest branch at a height of four meters. Because the lowest branch survived the tree managed to live on until 1981, when it was unfortunately killed by a hurricane. It is estimated that the tree was 800 years old. Storkeegen is named after the nest of a white stork that built its nest in the tree sometime during the nineteenth century. In 1843 the painter Peter Christian Thamsen Skovgaard painted Storkeegen and named this painting ''Eg med Storkerede i Nordskoven ved Jægerspris''. Pedunculate Oak
''Quercus robur'', the pedunculate oak, is a species of flowering plant in the beech and oak family, Fagaceae. It is a large tree, native to most of Europe and western Asia, and is widely cultivated in other temperate regions. It grows on soils of near neutral acidity in the lowlands and is notable for its value to natural ecosystems, supporting a very wide diversity of herbivorous insects and other pests, predators and pathogens. Description Pedunculate oak is a deciduous tree up to tall, with a single stout trunk that can be as much as in girth (circumference at breast height) or even 14 m in pollarded specimens. Older trees tend to be pollarded, with boles (the main trunk) about 3 m long. They often live longer and become more stout than unpollarded trees. Kongeegen
Kongeegen (the King Oak) is a renowned oak tree in Denmark. It grows in ''Jægerspris Nordskov'' (Jægerspris North Forest) near Jægerspris, on the island of Sjælland. A scientific investigation in 1965 of the tree's rings indicated that the tree has an estimated age of 1500–2000 years, and may well be the oldest living oak in northern Europe. It probably originally grew in an open meadow, to account for its short trunk and low branching, with other taller forest trees growing up around it subsequently. Snoegen
Snoegen was an ancient pedunculate oak located in Jægerspris Nordskov, near the town Jægerspris in Denmark. Snoegen is located in the same forest as Kongeegen and Storkeegen. Snoegen died in 1991 after a few seasons of decreasing foliage, and following works to erect a wooden barrier around the tree that may have damaged the root zone. The trunk still stands. Snoegen is named after the twisted trunk. The trunk had a perimeter of 8.90 meters in 1990. It is estimated that the tree is between the 600 and 700 years old but there are also estimations who suggest an age between the 400 and 850 years. White Stork
The white stork (''Ciconia ciconia'') is a large bird in the stork family, Ciconiidae. Its plumage is mainly white, with black on the bird's wings. Adults have long red legs and long pointed red beaks, and measure on average from beak tip to end of tail, with a wingspan.
