Stoney Units
In physics, the Stoney units form a system of units named after the Irish physicist George Johnstone Stoney, who first proposed them in 1874 (but published only in 1881). They are the earliest example of natural units, i.e., a coherent set of units of measurement designed so that chosen physical constants fully define and are included in the set. Units The constants that Stoney used to define his set of units is the following: * , the speed of light in vacuum, * , the gravitational constant, * , the Coulomb constant, * , the charge of the electron. Later authors typically replace the Coulomb constant with . This means that the numerical values of all these constants, when expressed in coherent Stoney units, is equal to one: \begin c &= 1\ l_\text \cdot t_\text^ \\ G &= 1\ l_\text^3 \cdot t_\text^ \cdot m_\text^ \\ k_\text &= 1\ l_\text^3 \cdot t_\text^ \cdot m_\text \cdot q_\text^\\ e &= 1\ q_\text \end In Stoney units, the numerical value of the reduced Planck constant is ...

Assiniboine Language
The Assiniboine language (; also known as Assiniboin, Hohe, or Nakota, Nakoda, Nakon or Nakona, or Stoney) is a Nakotan Siouan languages, Siouan language of the Great Plains, Northern Plains. The name ''Assiniboine'' comes from the term , from Ojibwe language, Ojibwe, meaning 'Stone Siouans'. The reason they were called this was that Assiniboine people used heated stone to boil their food. In Canada, Assiniboine people are known as Nakoda (Stoney), Stoney Indians, while they called themselves Nakota, ''Nakota'' or ''Nakoda'', meaning 'allies'''.'' Classification The Dakotan group of the Siouan family has five main divisions: Dakota people, Dakota (Santee-Sisseton), Dakota (Yankton-Yanktonai), Lakota people, Lakota (Teton), Nakoda (Assiniboine) and Nakoda (Stoney), Nakoda (Stoney).Miller, D., Smith, D., McGeshick, J. Stoney Language
Stoney—also called Nakota, Nakoda, Isga, and formerly Alberta Assiniboine—is a member of the Dakota subgroup of the Mississippi Valley grouping of the Siouan languages. The Dakotan languages constitute a dialect continuum consisting of Santee-Sisseton ( Dakota), Yankton-Yanktonai ( Dakota), Teton (Lakota), Assiniboine, and Stoney. Stoney is the most linguistically divergent of the Dakotan dialects and has been described as "on the verge of becoming a separate language." Ullrich considers Stoney and Assiniboine distinct languages, saying "The Nakoda language spoken by the Assiniboine is not intelligible to Lakota and Dakota speakers, unless they have been exposed to it extensively. The Stoney form of the Nakoda language is completely unintelligible to Lakota and Dakota speakers. As such, the two Nakoda languages cannot be considered dialects of the Lakota and Dakota language." The Stoneys are the only Siouan people that live entirely in Canada, and the Stoney language is spok ...

Nakoda (Stoney)
The Nakoda (also known as Stoney, , or Stoney Nakoda) are an Indigenous people in Western Canada and the United States. Their territory used to be large parts of what is now Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Montana, but their reserves are now in Alberta and in Saskatchewan, where they are rarely differentiated from the Assiniboine. They refer to themselves in their language as , meaning 'friend, ally'. The name ''Stoney'' was given to them by Anglophone explorers, because of their technique of using fire-heated rocks to boil broth in rawhide bowls. They are very closely related to the Assiniboine, who are also known as Stone Sioux (from ). The Nakoda First Nation in Alberta comprises three bands: Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney. The Stoney were "excluded" from Banff National Park between 1890 and 1920. In 2010 they were officially "welcomed back". Nakoda groups The Nakoda are descendants of individual bands of the Assiniboine, from whom they spun out as an independent g ...
