or is a town and the administrative centre of Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on the northern coast of the island of Hadseløya and on the small, neighboring island of Børøya. The town has a population (2023) of 3,496 and a population density of . In 2000, Stokmarknes received " town status". Stokmarknes is the headquarters to the Hurtigruten coastal express company and also the Coastal Express Museum. The local hospital for the whole Vesterålen region ( Nordland Hospital Vesterålen) is located in the town as well. Stokmarknes is the home town of Norwegian band Madrugada. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Stokmarknes. Stokmarknes Airport (; ) is an airport in Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on the island of Langøya, about northeast of the town of Stokmarknes and about southwest of the town of Sortland. Widerøe is the only approved scheduled air carrier to operate from the airport, using Canadian-built De Havilland Canada Dash 8 STOL (short take-off and landing) aircraft. Other frequent traffic includes ambulance flights (MEDEVAC) using Beechcraft Super King Airs operated by Babcock Scandinavian Air Ambulance. History The airport opened 1 July 1972 as part of a government program of building a series of small airports along the coast. Norwegian Coastal Express Museum
The Norwegian Coastal Express Museum () is located at Richard Withs plass (Richard With Square) in Stokmarknes in Nordland county—a natural location because the Coastal Express was "born" here. The museum is operated by the Coastal Express Museum Association and it includes the former coastal express ship from the Vesterålen Steamship Company. The museum was officially opened by Transport Minister Kjell Opseth on July 2, 1993—the 100th anniversary of the first coastal express voyage. The museum then received its premises in the old administration building of the Vesterålen Steamship Company. In 1999 the museum was relocated to a new location in the Coastal Express Building (''Hurtigrutens Hus'') next to the Coastal Express dock. Langøya
Langøya is the third largest island of Norway (outside of Svalbard), with an area of . The island is a part of the Vesterålen archipelago in Nordland county, Norway. The island includes Bø Municipality and Øksnes Municipality as well as parts of Sortland Municipality and Hadsel Municipality. Vesterålen ( , ; ) is a district and archipelago in Nordland county, Norway. It is located just north of Lofoten and west of Harstad. It is the northernmost part of Nordland county. Sortland is the largest town, situated near the center of the archipelago. Vesterålen includes the municipalities of Andøy, Bø, Hadsel, Sortland, and Øksnes. Madrugada (band)
Madrugada is a Norwegian alternative rock band formed in Stokmarknes in 1993, with a core lineup of Sivert Høyem (vocals), Robert Burås (guitar), and Frode Jacobsen (bass). Following Burås' death on 12 July 2007, Høyem and Jacobsen decided to finish recording what was to be their final album in the original lineup. On 21 January 2008, the band released '' Madrugada'' and announced that they would split after one last tour. They performed their final concert on 15 November 2008. In June 2018, it was announced that Høyem, Jacobsen, and Lauvland Pettersen had reformed the band for a series of shows in 2019. Madrugada's musical style is noted for "its bareboned blues-inspired alt-rock". The band's name means "dawn" in Spanish and Portuguese. Børøya
or is a small island in Hadsel Municipality in Nordlandcounty, Norway. The island is located in the Langøysundet strait between the island of Langøya and the town of Stokmarknes on the island of Hadseløya. Børøya has an area of and the highest point on the island is above sea level. Norwegian County Road 82 runs across the island connecting it to Langøya and Hadseløya. In the east, the Hadsel Bridge connects with Langøya. In the west, a short bridge connects the island to Stokmarknes. On Børøya, there is a large residential area and several businesses. For many years there was a mall on Børøya, but the building is now used by NorEngros Health Service Wholesale. The Hadsel Bridge () is a cantilever road bridge in Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The bridge carries Norwegian County Road 82 and it crosses the Langøysundet strait between the islands of Langøya and Børøya. Together with the Børøy Bridge it connects the island of Hadseløya and the town of Stokmarknes to the neighboring island of Langøya. or is an island in Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the Vesterålen region on the north side of the Hadselfjorden. The town of Stokmarknes is situated on the northern shore of the island and the village of Melbu is on the southern coast. The island has an area of . The Børøy Bridge () is a bridge in Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The bridge carries Norwegian County Road 82 between the town of Stokmarknes on the island of Hadseløya to the nearby island of Børøya. Hadsel Church
Hadsel Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Hadsel Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Hadsel, just east of the town of Stokmarknes on the island of Hadseløya. It is one of the churches for the Hadsel parish which is part of the Vesterålen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The red, wooden church was built in an octagonal style in 1824 by an unknown architect. The church seats about 500 people. History The earliest mention of this church in existing historical records was in 1381, but there are additional records that talk about the priest of Hadsel dating back to 1321. Not much is known about the church before the 1600s, but in 1639 an old church was demolished and a new log building in a cruciform design was built on the same location.
