Stig Westerberg
Stig Evald Börje Westerberg (26 November 1918 – 1 July 1999) was a Swedish conductor and pianist, whose career was based mostly in his home country.Karlsson H. "Stig Westerberg". Biography Born in Malmö, Stig Westerberg studied Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm from 1937 to 1942, with Melchior Melchers for theory and Tor Mann for conducting. After the Second World War, he also studied in Paris with Paul Kletzki. He was a repetiteur at the Royal Swedish Opera from 1943 to 1946, also making he debut conducting the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra 1946. Other positions held during this time were Conductor of the Oscarsteatern from 1947 to 1948, and Musical Director of Gävle Symphony Orchestra from 1949 to 1953, and conductor at the Royal Swedish Opera from 1953 to 1957. Conducting
Conducting is the art of directing a musical performance, such as an orchestral or Choir, choral concert. It has been defined as "the art of directing the simultaneous performance of several players or singers by the use of gesture." Sterling Records (Sweden)
Sterling Records is a classical music record label, specializing in releasing world premiere recordings of the orchestral work of romantic composers. The label was founded by Stockholm resident Bo Hyttner as a continuation of his record shop in 1980. Since then, it has released over eighty CDs, most of them containing works that were previously unavailable on record. Vernon Handley
Vernon George "Tod" Handley (11 November 1930 – 10 September 2008) was a British conductor (music), conductor, known in particular for his support of British composers. Early life and education He was born of a Welsh father and an Irish mother into a musical family in London Borough of Enfield, Enfield, Middlesex. He acquired the nickname "Tod" because his feet were turned in at his birth, which his father simply summarised: "They toddle". Handley preferred the use of the name "Tod" throughout his life over his given names. Handley attended Enfield Grammar School. While in school, he watched the BBC Symphony Orchestra in its studio in Maida Vale, where by his own account he learned some of his conducting technique by observing Adrian Boult, Sir Adrian Boult. ''Estrella de Soria'' is a three-act opera by Franz Berwald, to a libretto by Otto Prechtler translated into Swedish by Ernst Wallmark. It was first performed at the Royal Swedish Opera, Stockholm on 9 April 1862 and had five performances in that run. It has never entered the repertory, although it was revived in Stockholm in 1898 and 1946.
