Steve Forbert
Samuel Stephen Forbert (born December 13, 1954) is an American pop/folk singer-songwriter. His 1979 song "Romeo's Tune" reached No. 11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and No. 13 on the ''Billboard'' Adult Contemporary (chart), Adult Contemporary chart. It also spent two weeks at No. 8 in Canada. Forbert's first four albums all charted on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 chart, with ''Jackrabbit Slim'' certified gold in Canada. In 2004, his ''Any Old Time'' album was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Traditional Folk category. Forbert has released 21 studio and 3 live albums. Forbert's songs have been recorded by several artists, including Rosanne Cash, Keith Urban, Marty Stuart and Webb Wilder. In 2017, a tribute album, ''An American Troubadour: The Songs of Steve Forbert'', was released, with covers of his songs by twenty-one artists. Romeo's Tune
"Romeo's Tune" is a song recorded by Steve Forbert, released in 1979 as the lead single from his album '' Jackrabbit Slim''. The song became an international hit during the winter of 1980. "Romeo's Tune" did best in Canada, where it became a top 10 hit. It remains Forbert's only major charting single. Lyrical content The song speaks of fading away from the world in the company of your lover. The title does not appear in the lyrics. Instrumentation The distinctive piano lick on "Romeo's Tune" was done by former Elvis Presley pianist Bobby Ogdin, a well-known Nashville session piano player. In live performances, Forbert plays the lick on a neck-mounted harmonica. Gerde's Folk City
Gerdes Folk City, sometimes spelled Gerde's Folk City, was a music venue in the West Village of Manhattan in New York City. Initially opened by owner Mike Porco as a restaurant called Gerdes, it eventually began to present occasional incidental music. It was first located at 11 West 4th Street (in a building which no longer exists), before moving in 1970 to 130 West 3rd Street. The club closed in 1987. On January 26, 1960, Gerdes turned into a music venue called The Fifth Peg, in cooperation with Izzy Young, the director of the Folklore Center. The Fifth Peg's debut bill was gospel folk singer Brother John Sellars and Ed McCurdy, writer of the anti-war classic " Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream". CBGB was a New York City music club opened in 1973 by Hilly Kristal in the East Village, Manhattan, East Village in Manhattan, New York City. Robert Brinley Joseph Harris (born 11 April 1946), popularly known as "Whispering Bob" Harris, is an English music presenter. John Webb McMurry (born May 19, 1954), known as Webb Wilder, is an American country, rock & roll singer, guitarist and actor. Early life McMurry was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He started playing guitar at the age of 12 and was playing in bands when he was 14. His aunt was Lillian McMurry, the founder of Trumpet Records. She mentored him and gave advice as he started in the music industry.
