Stepan Vytvytskyi
Stepan Porfyrovych Vytvytskyi (; 13 March 1884 – 9 October 1965), also known as Dr. Stepan Wytwycky, was a Ukraine, Ukrainian politician, diplomat, and journalist. He was the President of Ukraine, President of the Ukrainian People's Republic, Ukrainian People's Republic in exile (1954–1965). Biography Stepan Vytvytskyi was born on 13 March 1884, in the village of Uhornyky, Ivano-Frankivsk, Uhornyky, near to the city of Ivano-Frankivsk, Stanislawow, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria in Austria-Hungary (now in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Western Ukraine). He studied at the law faculties of the Lviv University, Lviv and University of Vienna, Vienna Universities. During his years as a student, Vytvytskyi was the head of ''Academic Hromada'' in Lviv and the organization ''Sich'' in Vienna. In 1910, he began his practice as a lawyer in Drohobych. Western Ukraine
Western Ukraine or West Ukraine (, ) refers to the western territories of Ukraine. There is no universally accepted definition of the territory's boundaries, but the contemporary Ukrainian administrative regions ( oblasts) of Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Ternopil and Zakarpattia (which were part of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire) are typically included. In addition, Volyn and Rivne oblasts (parts of the territory annexed from the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth during its Third Partition) are also usually included. Directory Of Ukraine
The Directorate, or Directory () was a provisional collegiate revolutionary state committee of the Ukrainian People's Republic, initially formed on 13–14 November 1918 during a session of the Ukrainian National Union in rebellion against the Ukrainian State. During the Anti-Hetman Uprising it was named as the Executive Council of the State Affairs. Its authority was extended by the Labor Congress of Ukraine on 23–28 January 1919. West Ukrainian People's Republic
The West Ukrainian People's Republic (; West Ukrainian People's Republic#Name, see other names) was a short-lived state that controlled most of Eastern Galicia from November 1918 to July 1919. Sich Riflemen
The Sich Riflemen Halych-Bukovyna Kurin () was one of the first regular military units of the Ukrainian People's Army. The unit operated from 1917 to 1919 and was formed from Ukrainian soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian army (Ukrainian Sich Riflemen) and local volunteers. The first kurin was formed in Kyiv on 13 November 1917. Commanded by Col. Yevhen Konovalets with his chief of staff Andriy Melnyk, the Sich Riflemen had up to 25,000 men at their peak, including artillery, cavalry, reconnaissance and machine-gun units and defended the government of UNR against the Bolshevik insurrection in the capital and later against the regular Red Army forces that advanced into Ukraine in 1918. Drohobych
Drohobych ( ; ; ) is a city in the south of Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. It is the administrative center of Drohobych Raion and hosts the administration of Drohobych urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine.
