The Hanseatic City of Stendal () is a town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is the capital of the Stendal District and the unofficial capital of the Altmark region. Geography Situated west of the Elbe valley, the Stendal town centre is located some west of Berlin, around east of Hanover, and north of the state capital Magdeburg. Stendal is the seat of a University of Applied Sciences () and preserves a picturesque old town including a historic market and several churches. The nearby village Uchtspringe is home to a psychiatric rehabilitation clinic. Stendal (district)
Stendal () is a district () in the north-east of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Its neighbouring districts are (clockwise from the south): Jerichower Land, Börde, Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, Lüchow-Dannenberg in Lower Saxony, and the districts of Prignitz, Ostprignitz-Ruppin and Havelland in Brandenburg. History In the administrative reform of 1994 the previous district of Stendal was merged with the districts of Osterburg and Havelberg. Geography The district is located in the Altmark region. With an area of , it is the largest district of Saxony-Anhalt. Its highest elevation is the 132.8 metre high ''Landsberg''. The main rivers in the district are the Elbe and the Havel. Wittenmoor is a village and a former municipality in the district of Stendal, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the town Stendal. Geography The village Wittenmoor is located in the south of the Altmark, on the northern edge of the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide. The village is between the Hanseatic city of Stendal and Gardelegn. In Wittenmoor springs the Tangier, a left tributary of the Elbe. The area is slightly hilly, towards the southwest, the wooded terrain rises to 128 m (419.95 ft) above Mean Sea Level.
