Stefán Teitur Þórðarson
Stefán Teitur Þórðarson (born 16 October 1998) is an Icelandic professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Preston North End and the Iceland national team. Club career On 9 July 2024, Stefán Teitur signed for Championship club Preston North End on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee. After a good spell of starts, Stefán got his first goal for the club bending a beautiful finish into the far corner in a 2–1 win over Middlesbrough. International career Stefán has played youth international games for the Icelandic U-21s. In January 2020 he made his senior international debut in a match against Canada, coming on as a 73rd-minute substitute for Aron Elís Þrándarson. Akranes
Akranes () is a port town and municipality on the west coast of Iceland, around north of the capital Reykjavík. The area where Akranes is located was settled in the 9th century; however, it did not receive a municipal charter until 1942. History Akranes was settled in the 9th century by the brothers Þormóður and Ketill, sons of Bresi, who came from Ireland. The town started to form in the mid-17th century as a fishing village. Teitur Thordarson
Teitur Thordarson (, born 14 January 1952) is an Icelandic football coach. He is the older brother of Ólafur Þórðarson. Playing career Club Íþróttabandalag Akraness Before coaching, Teitur playing as a striker for nearly two decades. He signed his first professional contract when he joined hometown club Íþróttabandalag Akraness in 1969. He scored 51 goals in 99 appearances, and won four championship titles with ÍA between 1969 and 1977. Sweden After a season with Swedish second division club Jönköping in 1977, Teitur helped Öster to three league championships in Sweden's top-flight Allsvenskan between 1978 and 1981. Twelve teams contested the league, including the defending champions FH, who won their eighth league title in 2016. The season began on 30 April 2017 and concluded on 30 September 2017. The Besta deild karla () is a professional association football league in Iceland and the highest level of the Icelandic football league system. The competition was founded in 1912 as the Icelandic Championship. Because of the harsh winters in Iceland, it is generally played in the spring and summer (April to September). It is governed by the Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ) and has 12 teams. By the end of the 2022–23 season, UEFA ranked the league No. 48 in Europe. From 27 April 2009 to 2022, the league had an active agreement on the league's name rights with Ölgerðin, the Icelandic franchisee for Pepsi. The Danish Cup (; often referred to as Pokalen) is the official "single-elimination tournament, knockout" cup competition in Danish football, run by the Danish Football Association. The cup has been contested annually since 1955. The winner will qualify for the UEFA Europa League tournament the following year, where they (as of the 2009–10 season) will enter in the third qualifying round. The final traditionally takes place on ''Kristi Himmelfarts Dag'' (Feast of the Ascension, The Ascension) and it is always played in the Danish national stadium Parken. Sigursteinn Gíslason
Sigursteinn Davíð Gíslason (25 June 1968 – 16 January 2012) was an Icelandic football player and manager. A left-sided defender who could also play in midfield, he spent the majority of his playing career in his home country; he started his career with KR and later had spells with ÍA and Víkingur Reykjavík. During the 1999–2000 season, Sigursteinn joined English club Stoke City and played eight matches in the Football League. Following his retirement from playing, he became a coach at his former club KR and went on to spend three years as the club's assistant manager. In 2008, Sigursteinn was appointed as manager of Leiknir Reykjavík, a position he held for more than two seasons before being forced to retire through illness. Árni Sveinsson
Árni Sveinsson (born 12 February 1956) is an Icelandic former footballer who played as a midfielder. He won 50 caps for the Iceland national football team between 1975 and 1985. Árni began his career with ÍA and made his senior debut during the 1973 season. He went on to play 199 league matches for the club, scoring 28 goals. During the winter of 1978–79, he had a spell with Dutch Eerste Divisie side Excelsior Rotterdam, where he scored twice in four appearances. In 1987, Árni joined 3. deild club Stjarnan, where was a part of the team that won successive promotions in 1988 and 1989. In total, he played 64 league matches for Stjarnan and scored 42 goals. Árni played three games for Aris Bonnevoie in Luxembourg in the 1990–91 season, before signing with Dalvík upon his return to Iceland.
