State Street is a downtown street in Portland, Maine, United States. Part of Maine State Route 77, it runs One-way traffic, one-way for around , from an intersection with Forest Avenue in the northwest to York Street in the southeast. It is one of the three main routes crossing the Portland peninsula in this direction, the other two being High Street (Portland, Maine), High Street and Franklin Street (Portland, Maine), Franklin Street. Deering Oaks Park
Deering Oaks Park is a public park in Portland, Maine, which has a baseball diamond, tennis courts, a playground, and a pond. It is located west of downtown Portland and is bordered by Deering Avenue to the west, Forest Avenue to the east, Park Avenue to the south and Interstate 295 (Maine), Interstate 295 to the north. State Street (Portland, Maine), State Street and High Street (Portland, Maine), High Street pass through the park. Access is from State Street, Deering Avenue, or Park Avenue. The Portland Farmers' Market (Maine), Portland Farmers' Market is located on the Park Avenue side of the park. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History During King William's War, Benjamin Church (ranger), Benjamin Church helped defend the British settlers on this site in September 1689 against New France, Canadiens, and tribes of the Wabanaki Confederacy.
