Stanisław Warszycki
Stanisław Warszycki of Abdank coat of arms (c. 1600 – 1680/1681) was a noble (''szlachcic'') and magnate in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Starosta of Piotrków Trybunalski, Piotrków, Voivode of Mazowsze (1630–1651), Castellan of Cracow (from 1651).It is possible he received the office of castellan earlier and had it in 164 Some sources also claim he held the offices of Miecznik of Łęczyca, voivode of Sandomierz and podskarbi. The latter one is certainly false, as it was one of his relatives, Stanisław Warszycki who died in 1617, who was podskarbi from 1610 to 1616. Sources are also not clear on the year of his births (around 1599) and death (1680 or 1681). He was known for his loyalty to his king and country, and gained fame as a good military commander and especially as a keen investor dedicated to developing his lands, but there are also many legends about his cruelty — although it is likely many of the latter were spread by his enemies. Abdank is a Polish coat of arms. It was used by several ''szlachta'' families in the times of the Kingdom of Poland and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. History According to Kasper Niesiecki, the beginning of this shield dates from the time of Krakus, a mythological Polish monarch who founded and gave his name to the city of Kraków. On Wawel Mount, where Kraków's castle stood, from the Wisła (Vistula) river side, a man-eating dragon showed up. One day a man called Skuba, a young shoemaker, took the skin of a flayed sheep, put tar and sulphur and fire-brand into it and threw it into the dragon's lair. The dragon, not recognizing the deception, assumed it was a sacrifice from the people of Kraków and ate the fake sheep. The fire in his belly ignited it and as a result the dragon became very thirsty. He drank and drank the water from the Wisła river until he finally exploded and died. For his heroi ...
