Stanisław Trybuła
StanisÅ‚aw CzesÅ‚aw TrybuÅ‚a (2 January 1932 – 28 January 2008) was a Polish mathematician and statistician. Early life and education TrybuÅ‚a was a pupil of state high school in Rypin, Poland, and he graduated from The First High School in ToruÅ„ in 1950. He studied mathematics in Nicolaus Copernicus University in ToruÅ„ and WrocÅ‚aw University. He defended his master thesis on some problems of the game theory prepared under supervision of Hugo Steinhaus at WrocÅ‚aw University in 1955. Academic career In 1955 TrybuÅ‚a became a faculty member at Department of Mathematics, WrocÅ‚aw University of Technology. In 1959 he was distinguished as the candidate of science and in 1960 he defended his PhD on minimax estimation under supervision of Hugo Steinhaus. Texas Transfer
Texas transfer, or simply Texas, is a bidding convention in contract bridge designed to get the partnership to game in a major suit opposite a one notrump or two notrump opening, thus making the opener declarer and keeping the stronger hand hidden from the opponents. Texas is used in response to a notrump opening when holding a six-card or longer major suit and at least game-going features; responder may have interest in slam via continuations in Blackwood or its variants. Originated independently by David Carter of St. Louis and Olle Willner of Sweden. After a notrump opening, responder bids the suit below his major at the four-level, i.e. if he holds hearts, he bids 4 and if he holds spades, he bids 4. Stayman Convention
Stayman is a bidding convention in the card game contract bridge. It is used by a partnership to find a 4-4 or 5-3 trump fit in a suit after making a one (1NT) opening bid and it has been adapted for use after a 2NT opening, a 1NT overcall, and many other natural notrump bids. Polish Club
Polish Club (Polish: ''Wspólny Język'', literally "Common Language") is a bridge bidding system which was developed in Poland, where it is the most popular bidding system, and which is also used by players of other countries. It is a type of small club system. In the Polish Club, a 1♣ opening bid is forcing for one round but does not necessarily show a strong hand; in most versions of this system it shows either a weak balanced hand (about 12-14HCP), a natural 1♣ opening or any strong hand. Consequently, bids of 1, 1 and 1♠ are limited to about 18HCP, and also 1 shows at least four diamonds (five in some versions of the system). The 2♣ opening is usually reserved to show a limited hand with long clubs and possibly a four-card major, similar to the Precision 2♣ opening. A bidding system in contract bridge is the set of agreements and understandings assigned to calls and sequences of calls used by a partnership, and includes a full description of the meaning of each treatment and convention. The purpose of bidding is for each partnership to ascertain which contract, whether made or defeated and whether bid by them or by their opponents, would give the partnership their best scoring result. In statistics, sequential analysis or sequential hypothesis testing is statistical analysis where the sample size is not fixed in advance.
