Stal Gorzów Wielkopolski is a Polish motorcycle speedway team from Gorzów Wielkopolski. The motorcycle speedway team is one of Poland's most accomplished teams – winning nine Team Speedway Polish Championships and ten Polish Pairs Speedway Championships. It competes in Speedway Ekstraliga (top division). History Formation and beginnings The speedway section of club was officially registered 9 April 1950. At number 60 the register of sports associations was written down trade union sports club of Gorzów Wielkopolski. In July 1951 the club already had own 395-metres with path by the Śląska Street. Edward Jancarz Stadium
Edward Jancarz Stadium (), formerly the Stadion żużlowy Gorzów Wielkopolski, is a 15,000-capacity multi-use stadium in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland, and the home of motorcycle speedway club Stal Gorzów Wielkopolski. It is currently used mostly as a 329 m racetrack for speedway matches and is the home stadium of Stal Gorzów Wielkopolski in the Speedway Ekstraliga. History The stadium has opened in 1951. It is named after Edward Jancarz, a former speedway rider from Gorzów Wielkopolski who finished third in the 1968 World Final in Sweden, and helped Poland win the 1969 Speedway World Team Cup at home in Rybnik. Edward Jancarz
Edward 'Ed' Jancarz (20 August 1946 – 11 January 1992) was a Polish international Motorcycle speedway, speedway rider. He earned 76 international caps for the Poland speedway team. Career Jancarz participated in ten Speedway World Championship finals, his highest placing being in his first final in 1968, when he finished on the rostrum in third place after a run-off with Russian rider Gennady Kurilenko. He was also a member of the Polish Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup winning team of 1969 Speedway World Team Cup, 1969. Igor Alexandrovich Plekhanov (; 26 July 1933 in Ufa, Russian SFSR – 2 August 2007) was a Soviet speedway rider who finished second in the Speedway World Championship in 1964 and 1965. History Plekhanov was the first Soviet rider to appear in a Speedway World Championship world final during the 1961 Individual Speedway World Championship. He would go on to finish runner-up in the world championship in both 1964 and in 1965, when he defeated four times champion Ove Fundin in the silver medal run-off. Andrzej Pogorzelski (12 October 1938 – 16 October 2020) was a Polish motorcycle speedway rider and coach. Career He started his career in Unia Leszno and represented the club in 1956 and 1973-1976 seasons. While at Unia Leszno he won 2 bronze medals (1975, 1976) on Team Speedway Polish Championship. During the 1957-1961 seasons he rode in Start Gniezno and moved to Stal Gorzów Wielkopolski in winter 1962. While in Stal he won 1 gold (1969) and 5 silver (1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1971) medals in Team Speedway Polish Championship. During riding for Stal he held double record of the track in Gorzow Wielkopolski in seasons 1964 (76.4 sec - 18/10/1964) and 1969 (73.3 sec - 18/05/1969). Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Polish Pairs Speedway Junior Championship
The Polish Pairs Speedway Junior Championship () is an annual speedway event held each year in different Polish clubs organized by the Polish Motor Union since 1983. First edition was in 1980, but it was a Junior U-23 event. The participating teams are drawn into three groups; each staging a pairs competition. The top two teams in each group qualify for the Final. A host team chosen by the GKSŻ is seeded directly to the Final. The team winning the Final is awarded a gold medal and declared Polish Pairs Champions. Teams finishing second and third are awarded silver and bronze medals respectively.
