Stadyum (Ä°zmir Metro)
Stadyum is an elevated station on the M1 Line of the İzmir Metro in Bornova. It is located in the Çınar neighborhood above Fatih Avenue and 2783rd Street. The station is named ''Stadyum'' () after the nearby İzmir Atatürk Stadium, one of the largest stadiums in Turkey. Stadyum opened on 22 May 2000 as part of the ten original stations on the İzmir Metro. History Stadyum was originally a railway station on the Bornova suburban line known as Mersinli railway station. The station was built by the Smyrna Cassaba Railway (SCP) and opened on 25 October 1866. Trains from Basmane station to Bornova stopped at Mersinli. Since the Bornova Branch was never extended, the station and the line remained a suburban railway. The İzmir Metro () is a Medium-capacity rail system, light metro system serving the city of İzmir, Turkey. The current system, consisting of M1 (İzmir Metro), one line, starts from Narlıdere Kaymakamlık station in the southwestern portion of the metropolitan area and runs towards northeast to end at Evka 3 (İzmir Metro), Evka-3 in Bornova. İzmir's metro line is long, and serves 24 stations as of 4 March 2024. Overview By 1990, it was thought that the existing public transport system in Izmir could no longer support the growing population. A plan was thought of to build a rapid transit network by rail to cope with this. A contract was signed in 1993, and the handover was in 1994. Bornova is a municipality and Districts of Turkey, district of İzmir Province, Turkey. Its area is 220 km2, and its population is 454,470 (2022). ESHOT
Elektrik Su Havagazı Otobüs Troleybüs () or ESHOT is a bus service operating in the İzmir. ESHOT, along with İZULAŞ are the two main bus transit services in İzmir. Buses serve all districts, however, denser network presence attained in the central area. ESHOT is owned by the İzmir Municipality (İBB). History Before ESHOT was formed, all of İzmir's public services were operated by several companies. ESHOT Genel Müdürlüğü was formed on July 27, 1943, to take over the İzmir Tram and Electric Company. This company operated all trams, trolleybuses and electric facilities in the city. M1 (Ä°zmir Metro)
The M1, also known as the Narlıdere Kaymakamlık–Evka 3 Line (), is the only active line of the İzmir Metro in İzmir, İzmir, Turkey. The line runs from Narlıdere Kaymakamlık (İzmir Metro), Narlıdere Kaymakamlık station in the west to Evka 3 (İzmir Metro), Evka 3 station in the east, consisting of 24 stations. Construction of the first stage of line began in 1992 and was completed in 2000, consisting of 10 initial stations. Further extensions of the line since 2005 have been plagued by repeated construction delays and re-awarding of Procurement, tenders. An eastern extension in 2012 and two western extensions in 2014 and 2024 added another two, five and seven stations to the line respectively. İzmir Atatürk Stadium
İzmir Atatürk Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium in İzmir, Turkey. It was named after the Turkish statesman Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. It is currently used mostly for football matches and occasionally for track and field events. The stadium holds 51,295 people. It was opened in October 1971, and most recently refurbished in 2005. Smyrna Cassaba Railway
The Smyrne Cassaba & Prolongements ( English:''Smyrna Cassaba & Prolongations''), formerly The Smyrna Cassaba Railway, was a railway company operating in Western Anatolia from 1863 to 1934. History The Ottoman Government gave a concession to build a railway from Smyrna to Cassaba on July 4, 1863. The concession was awarded to an English company "The Smyrna Cassaba Railway". The railway chose to have their terminus closer to Smyrna's city center. Construction began ın 1864. The rail line opened to Manisa on October 10, 1865 and to Cassaba on January 10, 1866. The SCR then built a line to Bornova (splitting from the main line at Halkapınar), which opened on October 25, 1866. They were going to extend the line to Cassaba, but the SCR went bankrupt during the stock market crash in 1866. The SCR recovered after a second concession to Alaşehir. Basmane Railway Station
Basmane railway station () is an intercity and regional railway terminal and rapid transit station in İzmir, Turkey. Along with Alsancak station, Basmane is one of two railway terminals in the city. All TCDD Taşımacılık trains terminate at this station, with intercity service to Ankara, Bandırma and Konya as well as regional service to Denizli, Söke, Tire and Ödemiş. Bornova Branch
The Bornova Railway Branch was a 5.9 km long railway line, from Halkapınar to Bornova, Turkey, that branched from the SCP's main line at Halkapınar. The line was completed by the Smyrne Cassaba & Prolongements in 1866. TCDD absorbed the SCP on June 1, 1934 and took over ownership of the line. Usage decreased in the 1970s and the line was abandoned in the early 1990s. This line is now a part of the Izmir Metro.
