Stade Rivière Salée
Stade Rivière Salée, also known as the Bernard-Ukeiwé Stadium and the Salt River Stadium Complex, is a football stadium located in Noumea, New Caledonia. The stadium has a capacity of 3,000. It hosts the home games of a number of local football teams, including AS Kirikitr, as well as serving as a host venue for the 2011 Pacific Games men's football tournament. The stadium is often known as the Bernard-Ukeiwé Stadium, named after New Caledonian footballer and politician Bernard Ukeiwé. History Construction for the Stade Rivière Salée began in 1995, and plans to extend the stadium were accepted in 2001; the stadium was opened in 2004. The stadium hosted every Group "A" match during the 2011 Pacific Games from 27 August 2011 to 5 September 2011. Nouméa () is the capital and largest city of the French Sui generis collectivity, special collectivity of New Caledonia and is also the largest Francophone city in Oceania. Artificial turf is a surface of synthetic fibers made to look like natural grass, used in sports arenas, residential lawns and commercial applications that traditionally use grass. 2011 Pacific Games
The 14th Pacific Games (), also known as NC 2011 or Nouméa 2011, took place in Nouméa, New Caledonia, from August 27 to September 10, 2011. Nouméa was the 14th host of the Pacific Games. Upon closure of the registration for entries, "some 4,300 athletes" had registered from the twenty-two competing nations, although it was expected that not all would attend. Competing nations There were 22 nations from the Pacific competing in Nouméa. The numbers provided in brackets indicate the number of registered athletes prior to the Games, with that number expected to diminish by the Games' start. Bernard Ukeiwé
Bernard Ukeiwé (24 June 1953 - 23 July 2008) was a New Caledonian politician and footballer. The son of former senator Dick Ukeiwé, he played for the New Caledonia national football team. A Kanak, he opposed independence from France. As his father withdrew from political life, Bernard Ukeiwé continued his legacy. From 2006, he was vice president of the Rassemblement-UMP group.
